HKS Silent Hi-Power Exhaust

Postby Arith » Fri Apr 11, 2008 9:57 pm

Eka hasn't given me her explicit permission yet, but since the photos that were taken were from my camera, I guess I'll post it up. :derisive:

Last Saturday we dropped by Phat's house with a case of beer in the hopes of bribing him to help out with the exhaust that Eka ordered from him. And in return, he installed the HKS Silent Hi-Power catback exhaust on Eka's MY05 GT. Thanks again Michael! :give_heart:

What was once a rather somber ride now has a bit of character and spice to it, as the HKS gives a very nice rumble to the car. Stomp on the gas and let it scare the kids down the block. It's a great experience!

The sound is deep and mellow, and will get even more so once carbon starts filling up the mufflers. It's deeper and less crackly than the Fujitsubo's, I think. As for the coffee can exhaust tips, well, that's something to get used to. But it certainly means business.

From the inside the car, the HKS is relatively quiet from what I've experienced as a passenger thus far. Although when she gets the chance I'll let Eka write the full review of it. Hopefully combined with the Perrin top mount both power and response has been nicely increased.

It looks as good as it sounds :ok:

Eka says this will double as housing for her cat

Gotta love that HKS build quality! :good:

I'd say it was a good result

I've managed to get a low quality recording of the exhaust at start up. That can be found in the Liberty Exhaust Clips thread.

Joel,

I think the exhaust is hanging lower than normal due to the genuine Subaru hangers being worn out. New hangers should help it.

Thanks Jim for the pictures.

I am not much of a writer. Here's an effort to describe how the exhaust is in terms of noise and power.

For the sound, I like how it gives an extra punch when you first start your engine. It has a nice deep rumble. From the inside, when idle, it is very quiet, which is great and exactly what I like. When stuck in traffic or red lights, you don't have to put up with continuous noise, that'll eventually give you a headache. And when I stepped on the gas, then it roars.

Combine with the Perrin TMIC, the changes are noticable not only the high end but also on low. I feel that there's a nice smooth increase of power, moving forward or backward. The car doesn't jump. Upon applying pressure to the gas pedal, it accelerate nice and smooth and very fast.

Whether or not this is good or bad, I still haven't made up my mind, but I do enjoy the ride home from Sydney. :derisive:

Yes, it is currently hang slightly lower that I would like it to be, so I am going to get a new rubber in order to make it hang higher. I want to make it a lot higher, but I do want to avoid melting any plastics.

Nice pics/writeup. :)

I'm actually thinking of switching to a cat-back system soon, the sti twin tips just don't cut it anymore.

Guys,

I am looking for an exhaust mod for my 3.0R and at this stage just the mufflers. Thinking of the STI Genomes and have heard a sound file posted by Egg.

You guys got a sound file or video up?

Hey Resonate,

Have you just got the STI twin pipe mufflers? How much would you part with them for?

Phat GT,

Can you quote for the HKS ES Premium mufflers delivered to Melbourne?

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Oh dear!

Mark, since you're new to the forum, I'll try to appeal to Eka's (lib33rty) compassion to try to convince her not to tear you a new one for highjacking her thread. :blackeye:

Heh-heh. But please do remember to post such queries to the Bling me up or Wanted to buy areas to get advice on any mods you were thinking of. As for exhaust clips, I'm not sure if the Liberty Exhaust Clips topic will do it for you.

And if you're after a price for something, just PM Michael (Phat GT). Cheers!

Jim

Or if too confusing, just start a new thread!

Thanks.
