It just takes practice and youtube. I learnt heaps buying introductory electronics kits. They taught me about different components and how circuits work and some basic soldering. From there alot of it was internet based learning.

That being said, I started Mechanical Engineering at uni this year and that helps heaps! So many lecturers brains to pick. +we did some soldering classes which definitely improved my technique. I've seen these offered as night classes before, they definitely come in handy. :)

Just some food for thought

Yeah, i took a physics unit a few years back at uni which had a lot of circuits and electrical things but unfortunately i wasn't so into cars then and didnt see the need. regrets. definitely guna look into some night classes now though, thanks :) but either way, the way you cleaned up the wiring seemed professional.

I got the tapturn from scottymcphee on these forums. viewtopic.php?f=74&t=23277
Grabbed it during the group buy so the price was right!
Installed it the day I got it. Forgot to take pictures. Easy process though, did it in 10 minutes in the Uni carpark. The tapping to turn is very convenient. Esp for overtaking on highways. The flash modifiers are awesome at meets. They're good for striking up a converstation.

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone.

Managed to get the weathershields installed over the weekend. While I doubt they're that effective for weather they definitely reduced the wind noise around the windows at 110kph on the way home. I also think they look pretty sweet :) Worth the price I paid. Not sure if I'd get them if I had to pay $200

So I have to admit I've been a little bit naughty. haha
I bought the car at 175K km and it had a service at 170K. Anyway normally I'd service a car straight after buying it but I decided to leave this one. When I first got it I did notice some accessory belt noise and found that the belt had almost worn all the way through and was cracked as. I was very surprised that a mechanic would miss this as it was a pretty obvious problem and belts are on pretty much all tick and flick sheets I have ever seen.

Image

Anyway I should have taken that as a warning sign but I let the car out to 182K before I finally got round to servicing it this weekend. The previous service they put 0W-30 in it where it had been running 10W-30 all its life. I knew it had been burning a very slight amount of oil (possibly due to this) during the service interval so I topped it up a couple of times. Anyway I got around to dropping the oil and it came out pretty clean so I was happy with that. Only problem was... 4 Litres went in but only 3 came out :o The oil is perfectly at the full level now so either the difference between the high and low dot on the dipstick is a little over 1L (was a little above the low mark) or I've been reading the dipstick wrong  Anyway the engine absolutely purrs so I don't think I've had any starvation problems. I also did an upper engine clean but barely any smoke came out. I followed the instructions on the can to the T. Maybe the NA engines get less crud in the intake compared to the turbos? So then I moved onto spark plugs... all I can say is holy shit! the electrodes were so worn I don't think they've been replaced since 100k (well I've never seen electrodes this worn). Three of them are the perfect colour though, the fourth one isn't too far off. I may pull them next service just to see how it's going.

I also found out that all my spark plug gaskets need replacing. :( Anyone got a good source for them? Are they different for SOHC and turbo (DOHC)? Any help would be appreciated. :)

I've also been getting more work done on my sub box. It looks seriously dodgy in this pic but once I'm finished it should blend in nicely with the rear :D

Finished uni 2 weeks ago. Drove 3040kms to Darwin last week for the holidays! Didn't skip a beat apartfom consuming half a litre of oil. I'm really hoping it's my leaky seals and not some other problem responsible for the consumption....

Getting onto the brembos!!! I'm yet to sandblast them as I'm afraid the sand will somehow get in the bores and screw them. I care less about the seals as I've got the rebuild kits. I'm not sure how to tape them up as I can't run a rubber band around the dust seal like cruisn showed with the wrx 4pots... I'm not sure I trust just the tape adhesion to keep the sand out... also thinking about sourcing some titanium shims. Anyone got opinions on these?

Hopefully pics to come. Might put up a tapturn install guide for those that are curious.

the master uses the quite thick heavy duty masking tape from Bunnings iirc cut to a circle to cover he pistons and seals.

Got the interior wrapped! Seriously loving this mod. IMO it adds a lot of class to the interior and the wrap doesn't scratch like the stock coating did...
Here's a teaser:

There was a lot of interest on the FB page so I'll do a writeup for this. I've got pics accumulating from various mods so I might have a picture purge soon and add a few more pages of pics. This page is looking a bit bare :(
