Just had a Blouch TD05-18G turbo fitted (8cm housing, billet wheel)...

First revision of the tune has it looking pretty good in sports mode (awaiting tune for sports sharp). First impressions:

— off boost feels much smoother (hoping for slightly better city fuel economy)
— the 'sucking' sound of the CAI is heaps quieter (I guess as boost is coming on a bit later when exhaust noise is also louder)
— kicks in later but no obvious feeling of lag
— boost seems a lot stronger and doesn't fizz out as much at higher revs (feels very smooth and continuous power delivery)
— doesn't have as much of a 'kick' as I was expecting... sports sharp tune might change this.

Nice feedback. I reckon S# will wake you up once properly sorted.

Good news mate!!

Drove about 800km this weekend and averaged 8.6L/100kms (Tassie highway, so plenty of hills). Previously would have been closer to 10L/100kms I think.

Matt has sent a revised tune (minor changes to wastegate tables to bring boost on a bit harder). Apparently this should also further improve fuel economy a there will be less load on the engine at lower revs.

The revised tune has also added a bit more kick! Sports sharp really hits - almost makes it hard to change gears as I'm not used to my left arm being thrown back

Ball bearing or journal?

Not sure if it's ball bearing or journal... (someone told me ball bearing, but the place selling it thought it was journal).

It's the better blouch ones with the red billet wheel if that helps?

Lol the red wheel is just marketing.

They came in BB and journal, best way to tell is to look at the badging on the core (centre part of the turbo, between intake housing and the exhaust housing). If the badge says Garrett - then it's a BB, if not then it's journal.

Finally had the TD05 18g dyno'd.

Full boost of about 18psi is reached at around 3000rpm, tapering off to 15psi at peak power (at around 6000rpm). The VF46 had more torque and more power down low. That said, the TD05 18g feels more powerful to drive - it feels like it pulls harder (maybe due to the lag). Putting some more boost into it might improve things, but at the moment I'm happy with it. Probably not worth the effort upgrading though...

Glad to hear you on the road again after all your troubles.

3000 rpm for me would be just to late to get that full boost drivability did you consider a vf52 as I heard Kido can have them at full boost at 2600 very close to vf46.

Yeah I was initially thinking of getting a VF52, but got the TD05-18g for a good price.

Still have the wastegate issues, but Matt is positive it is the wastegate flap clanging when exhaust pressure changes. I'm going to try to secure the flap mechinism with a spring (in a way that doesnt affect the actuator). Will see if that makes a difference. Otherwise i'll look at an external gate perhaps...

Sounds good still Kim. Nice strong power mid range isn't a bad thing. Great for overtaking that's for sure. All depends on what you are after.

Try laying your new dyno graph over your old... I'm willing to bet you picked up power from low to mid rpm upwards.
I only picked up 13wkw of peak when I went to VF52, but it felt like 30-40wkw. When I put the 2 graphs together I could see that it was because I'd gained across the entire rev range once on boost
P.s. I'm surprised at how responsive that turbo is... it doesn't look laggy at all!! Evo owners are thrilled if they have full boost by 4000rpm haha

what were the differences in peak boost kim? Im just wondering if perhaps the vf46 could have been cheated in some way, as there is some info missing on the original tunes dyno graph.
