There's a spot open on the track day Monday if you want to test it out ;)

I think Sean is very conservative in that regard although it's nice to know there's some headroom.

Maybe in the new year I'll do the mid-pipe, (possibly rear mufflers as well if I can find something I like). Sean thought then I'd need a new fuel pump but the injectors are good.

Thanks for the offer regarding Monday but I have to work some of the time! I have entered the Hill climb next month 'tho - so I'll see you there?

No doubt he knows what he's doing. Although I wish he'd start his dyno graphs from 0 to give them better perspective :P

Haha fair enough. Yeah I'll be at the hill climb :)

A quick update on my impressions since the change to the VF52.

To re-cap, the only modifications to the engine are the EcuTek, dump, bigger TMIC and the turbo. Exhaust remains standard beyond the Cat.

The main impression is smooth, almost effortless power that keeps building with revs. It has a refinement that feels like factory, not standard but what I imagine Porsche or AMG 'factory' feel like.

Sean has upped the rev limiter to 7300 I think but I'm yet to have a chance to see much beyond 6000. Sunday mornings the hills are littered with push bikes and it's just not safe to push hard.

Overall the car feels more grown up and capable now. It has lost some of that initial surge it used to have but the mid-range and top end are so much better and smoother to boot.

Not a performance mod, but thanks to Michael at Garage 88 for supplying the ABS and battery covers.

Perfect fit (they are from Subaru, so no surprise) but it tickled me to find the appropriate holes and bracket already in place under the bonnet just waiting for these covers.

I've had the engine cover off for a while as it must have been slightly raised with the larger TMIC and rubbing under the bonnet just under acceleration.

I'm wondering about just installing the front half like I've seen some do. Any thoughts or suggestions?

In preparation for this Sunday's hillclimb event, I've also installed a fire extinguisher. NRG do a simple bracket all pre-drilled for this extinguisher and secures it to the seat bolts. I've put it under the drivers seat for easy access and with the electric seat there's no handle in the way.

If you're going to cut your engine cover up I'd personally try cutting around the TMIC bit to get it to sit lower if that's possible at all. If not cutting it in half is the next best option IMO :)

Hoping for some nice weather Sunday, been a bit crazy lately...

Thanks Dan. I'll have a look at it.

For Sunday, I guess the scrutineers would like the battery cover off?

I personally wouldn't chop the engine cover in half.

Where there's a will there's a way. Trim around the TMIC slot to fit / sit it.

I think the half cover looks a little dodgy

I forgot and left mine on last time... They passed me but I wasn't at the car when they checked it so they couldn't comment on it...

Compared to other things I've entered they're quite strict at Collingrove so might be worthwhile taking them off for the day :)

I'm on a roll and found this thread, fantastic car and results. What did you do with the engine cover fitment/TMIC in the end?

Re: OzSTi's '07 GTB: 2007 - 2014 One year update on VF52

Postby OzSTi » Mon Sep 01, 2014 12:24 pm

I realised it is almost a year since I've posted and there have been no modifications! Yes, I've left the car alone and simply enjoyed it. The car has done almost 45 000km now and I had the timing belt done earlier in the year. I decided not replace the engine cover; it looks fine.

So for those contemplating changing over to a VF52, what's it like?

Remembering my car has only a dump pipe, TMIC and Ecutek, it drives like a standard car in 'S'. Economy is unchanged at 11.4 l/100km around town.

Change to 'S#' and it's a different story. Great torque and smooth power out to the redline. I wouldn't want to drive in traffic in 'S#' as the throttle is too sensitive but it's perfect when you're going for it. Overall no downsides to the new turbo.

Was it value for money?

That's hard to say. No doubt that the first mods were excellent value but the laws of diminishing returns start to catch up with a turbo change. I'm very pleased with the way the car drives and performs and certainly with further exhaust changes more could be had but I'd lose the stealth nature of the car.

Actually I did do one modification; I installed the Tap Turn indicator module. This has been excellent allowing one touch lane changing flashes and some trick hazard modes for fun.

I did the timing belt based on age not kms. Because I don't do many kms, the whole life of the car I've had six monthly service, sometimes with only 2K kms between services.

I've done about 4K kms on the VF52 in this past year.

Track day at Mallala planned in two weeks. (So another service this week :D )

Still looking great - your car and George's ANIMAL got me into gen 4 Liberty back in the day!

How do you find the indicator tap mod? Have been keen to give it a try but haven't got around to it yet.

Typical! Regular service turns in to four new pads (SRT) and two new front rotors;Image

Did do my best time at Mallala Saturday, 1:29.2 which is over 3 secs than previous best. Brakes were excellent and I probably need to trust them more.

Top speed on the track also rose from 154km/h to 167km/h which would be mostly due to the VF52's top end.
