I did say was it tune... cylinder pressures too high maybe, engine no so happy

did you check for blow by? out the oil cap?

any oil in the intercooler? excess oil In the pcv system

tk test done? is the car really hard to start after being really hot?

does there look like there is coolant smell from the exhaust or excess water ?

valve stem seals can cause smoke after idling at traffic lights not just on start up, but being a boxer engine its harder for oil to get past the valve stem seals compared to normal engine design

So aftet my coolant system had been properly bled and checked out all ok WITHOUT doing a preasure test. I drove home yesterday then this morning from home to daycare and then dropped my daughter off at her friends place and then back to my parents place and then back home.... Total=1hr and a half in driving.

Checked my coolant over flow bottle and the bloody thing was about 5cm from the top and bubbling away.

So took a vid and sent it to the mechanic and he said it looks like the head has lifted...!! Yey to me!! I then said how does that explain the smoke yesterday. He just said its the ringlands AND ive done a head!!

So if its confirmed that its all farked i might just trade the bloody thing in and get rid of it....!! Dunno!!

Just sooooo pissed off.!! :angry2:

Mate sorry to hear about your bad luck. Sinking feeling I know.

Decide on whether you just fix it and move on, or spend a little more and make it stronger/better.

heads lifing sound extreme for youre mods but if it was tuned with lots of timing maybe, it might just be a head gasket and a oil gallery leak though the head gasket

Seriously?????

I must be a mad rally driver then. Cause i love driving at 9,000 rpm....

Seriously my car is driven like a grandpa most of the time as all i do most of the time is the school run. When i am by myself it might get full boost once or twice during my 15min trip home and that may only be a squirt to 4,500-5,000 rpm to get around someone or change lanes after taking off.

So my question is , can these Libs just not take anything?? I must have to putt putt around!!

So it has to be a combination of previous lack of maintenance/ thrashing/ pulse tune ( which was lean ) that have pushed it and then i got it tuned and it just tipped it over the edge.

And Im STILL getting this P0171 code??

Dan sounds like the previous tune was shite

Also - its starting to make sense bouterror code. if its a cracked head or blown hg, and water / oil is getting into your combustion chamber, your burnt exhaust gasses will read weird a result. This means afr sensor is confused and spits a code

Sorry to break it to you man but it does sound like hg

Remember that PHAT GT has done a few unopened to around 220-250 that have been going for like 5 years.

Bad luck anyways, hope you get it sorted.

It's possibly pushing the turbo beyond its efficiency envelope, without any added fueling support, and a possibly lean tune for more power, the end result is a major reduction of the headroom or leeway required for reliable operation in day to day running. IMHO

Injectors and pump shouldn't be required with a VF46 as far as I understand it. In fact you can push a VF52 pretty hard before either are a concern.

I don't think it's possible to do too much monitoring though, I totally agree with you there. If you don't know what's going on, you don't know what's going on...
