Hey mate, when you upgraded your stereo, did you upgrade amp and sub? Ive gone down the same route as you with type R's and an alpine amp, but am struggling to get any rock solid info on 8" free air subs. Almost everyone differs on their opinions. So what have you done with yours?

I got the pdx.1000 amp for my sub and running 12" typeR sub. I left the stock 8" in the shelf disconected. Im running pdx-f6 4ch for the typeR splits and 6" speakers.

Id recomend getting a larger sub then the 8 inch either 10 inch or 12inch. Much better bass.

Yeah I got the pdx-v9 amp its a 5 channel. The 5th channel has 500w rms so enough to run a bigger sub if I ever wanted to but im not into big bass.. a 10" would be perfect for me but id like to try and avoid having a sub box.
Sounds like weve got very similar systems other than the sub though... are you happy with the type R speakers?

Yes very happy with the typeR speakers very crisp and clear and do not distort when up lound. even when volume is low its so clear. 10" typeR's are great very punchy and crisp bass id recommend it.

UPDATE:

Over the last week i have made the change to e85, and all i have to say is its the best bang for buck mod you can do! earlier in the week i had purchased some ID1000s from Adam at Tuspeed and iam running the DW65c fuel pump already. i was introduced to Sharpie from STI and together saturday morning we installed the injectors. the installation was not to difficult more so fiddly and we took our time to make sure we had no fuel leaks. Sharpie found a little boost leak and we also sorted that out. after that we met up with Matt and Vinny at Gotitrex, all went well on the dyno we had a little issue with a BOV hose coming off but no other dramas. it was a scorching 40 degree day and i wasnt expecting to get massive numbers, each dyno run the numbers were getting lower and lower as it got hotter. in the end i managed to get 178kw on 13psi with 65 degree intake temps, with 20psi at 2400rpm in first gear :D the torque is amazing! i will post a graph later. the car drives completely different and im still trying to adjust to it. It puts a big smile on my face everytime :D id like to thank Matt for his amazing work and time spent helping me also Sharpie and Vinny from STI.

This thing looks unreal! Too bad you had the boost leak so we couldn't have some fun! Need to have a closer look at it sometime soon.
