I've been having some fun with a boost leak.

First, there was this:

Then there was this (and this is after I tried to repair it by squeezing it back together a bit):
Image

After replacing both hoseclamps on the throttle-body hose and removing the gaskets on either end of it, the boost leak seems to have gone (I've got an AVO throttle body hose coming regardless).

I also ordered the pigeon pair of Kobe Motorsport intake hoses, the MAF hose is fitted thus far, I'll fit the turbo intake hose at a not-too-distant time:

I've found getting the intercooler on and off to be a PITA, to be honest. Worse, there appear to be a pair of breather hoses for the automatic transmission just under the TMIC, and the bracket they're mounted to has buggered a few of the fins on the back of the intercooler. I'm wondering just how necessary it is that they sit in exactly the position they sit in, because frankly, I'll be taking the TMIC off a few times yet before I'm done (I'm seriously considering doing the turbo upgrade and downpipe upgrade myself), and I'm tiring of hearing fins bend and having to pull the TMIC off again, straighten the fins, and fit it again. Maybe I'll just go with a FMIC kit and be done with it...

You can definitely do the turbo upgrade yourself... very hard due to do with the exhaust bolts being well and truly fused on. But with patience you will get there. The oil drain under the turbo is a tricky one to get back in place, but again you can do it eventually. :D

I believe the tmic knocking on crap underneath is pretty common. Bending the underneath bracket, that holds the hoses, away, should help. But yeah, totally wtf location for them.

Cx racing fmic is pretty cheap and a good size :)

That one? Does it retain the factory foglamps?

Yeah it fits without any trimming of the front bar. You need a cold air intake though so the piping can fit. Alexei tried to talk me into it too
Great cooler and fit, but increased lag is a no no for me.

I hear lots of people talk about increased lag, but then I have heard quite a few people say the increased lag thing with an FMIC is a myth.

Cold air intake required makes it a no for me though. The increased intake sound won't fly here.

To retain the foggies you need to buy some silicone hoses, look up the "fmic install" by dja. He managed to keep them.

Many guys say they 'feel' no difference in lag between fmic and tmic. Similar to vf52 vs vf46, there's more lag technically, but it's an overall improvement in the drive. As matt said the torque will still be there. So fmic > tmic.

If you can find someone handy with welding, you can also make it fit with the std air box. Which I believe matt also did on his foz?

I'm trying to talk you guys into it because I really want it myself

I kept stock air box by having turbo to FMIC piping snake down between head and chassis rail then under chassis rail to spin 180 into FMIC.

Also, the lag is there while it takes a while to fill the pipework with pressure but the higher flow can increase torque significantly

Sending you a tune tweak tonight :)

250rpm tops in 3rd gear. In 5th gear you would barely know it had lag.

I'd love to run E85, but there's no reliable sources of it near where I live or work in Sydney. I was hoping that the factory E85-tuned Commodores would see the availability of E85 increase, but they barely caused a blip around here.
