The more K's the quicker it goes.

With the HPR10 I've done 2000ks so far and I'm 1/2way down the dipstick :)

If a car uses oils then there is concern ...

Most turbo subarus use oil when driven hard :) Mine was doing something to the count of 100ml/1000kms while doing 3rd gear pulls.

I wouldn't say delvac breaks down quickly, benny? My own experience, the stats and professional opinions rank it as a very decent long lasting oil. It does have the one downside of being 15W.

Are you serious about your oil usage? I don't know any decent car oil that breaks down after 2000kms! :o

Alexi what is wrong with it being 15w ? Is this bad for a car that's only driven say 2-3 times a month

Its even worse for a car driven 2-3 times per month

Edit - I'm really puzzled over this delvac mx craze for unopened EJ motors, especially for you Mexicans with the year-round winter.

For those interested, Delvac mx has the following characteristics:

cSt @ 40ºC 117
cSt @ 100ºC 15.5
Viscosity Index, ASTM D 2270 140
Sulfated Ash, wt%, ASTM D 874 1.3
Total Base # , mg KOH/g, ASTM D 2896 12
Pour Point, ºC, ASTM D 97 -33
Flash Point, ºC, ASTM D 92 230
Density @ 15ºC kg/l, ASTM D 4052

So unless you're winter is spent driving an unopened EJ motor of any sort in Bahrain, then I don't quite see the logic :?

its a little thick on start up, being that Bens engine is a bit older this oil would suit him considering the oil consumption issues he has spoken about also msr recommends it a bit, ive been running 15-50 motul but I don't know the clearances of my engine.

I do like the high tbn number of that delvac and would be good for people that push out there service interval but the viscosity index is average at best

Yet that is possibly contrary to the breakdown (of the detergent pack?) and subsequent (slightly) higher consumption I experienced after 2-3K.

the detergent pack is something that can suspend and neutralise the crap within the oil not burn it off, what your thinking is the evaporation loss which I think is the noack volatility number which is a new test that most oil company's don't do, think amsiol developed it . all oils burn off a little some more than others, the lower the noack number the better, if the noack number is higher then the engine can suck the evaporated oil through the pcv or burn it off in the combustion process. one issue when oil burns off if can become thicker and cause poor oil circulation

Lets bring the discussion back to my planned timing belt change and eventual starter motor/clutch job:

bigBADbenny wrote:Ok so I had a reality check chat with my local mechanics :)

The new warble on startup is not the clutch TOB it's the starter motor front bearing...
It can wait till it get a new clutch. 200k old clutch lives on!

I brought up my timing belt service items and they said, are you made of money with rocks in your head?
They want to do all the pulleys and idlers, water pump & gasket, of course, but with a Dayco kit, and skip the cam seals and thus the "just because I have replacement" inlet cam gears. Needless to say it could be very affordable :)

So I got a great price from RSS, then another great price from M&L.
(Some vendors even cast aspersions on other vendors kits, questioning the genuine-ness, not to mention any names!!!)
Hell even the Gates kits are apparently OK if installed correctly, YMMV.
Dayco make service kits for BMW among others, great value apparently, made in the USA apparently...

ive used gates and dyco belts on plenty of cars with no issues, but the cars were not high performance cars, I rather stick to genuine for that added security, the cosworth one looks good but pricy lol
