FATIGUE ALERT! SWC control GROM IPD3 postFL GT-B

Postby bigBADbenny » Fri Jun 28, 2019 12:41 pm

Thanks, J! :air_kiss: Yep it's still a "forever" car. I hope, see below...

So recently I've had a coupla major scares related to, I eventually found out, FATIGUE.

Without going into too much detail it's a silent killer, creeps up when you're unaware and causes all sorts of mischief if you're not careful...
Warning signs include making mistakes of judgement, no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

I'd even had a few moments doing long range driving, despite breaks and the usual precautions, plus some of my friends had actually written off their cars due to leaving the road: not good.

With that in mind, I really wanted to be able to put away the phone, especially on longer trips in the Lib, the fewer distractions the better.

The easiest way to approach that would be to get the steering wheel controls working with my trusty GROM IPD3 with the BTD BlueTooth adapter.

So I went to the GROM site, got the latest .hex, loaded it and promptly bricked my GROM. :bad:

OK well, that might be the 8GB mSD card, GROM says to use 4GB or under. Try buying one of those! Ebay of course but luckily my local phone iFixit had a coupla used ones...

Nope still bricked.

OK try format the card in Windows... nope, still bricked

OK try the USA sat/text version of the firmware... brick

Eurgggh nerd stuff!

Anyway, finally, I tried gromipd3_subaru_1.hex: the first firmware version... Bingo!
But no music. Hmmm...

OK then backtrack from the newest version... but look at the firmware notes, duh.

Think about it, do I even have DAB or HD radio? Nope. :?
OK, how about...

That's more like it! I need all those things!

Sure enough, the firmware loaded... Aaaaaaaand...
SWC track changing supported!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Now I do feel pretty bummed about not doing this 5 years ago!
But I'll get over that and the best is yet to come :P

Here's to safer, less distracted driving :good:

Hi, could i please make a request, when you have spare time....
Could you please make a basic index on what pages have what modifications performed.
Even a pretty basic one will help a lot.
Im gonna spend a bit of time to go through your whole thread.

Thanks...

Another question i have.

I see you're using "3D floor mats."

I have a BR9 and they mentioned in their website that its for auto transmission only.

And in the BL/BP models, its the same. Suits auto transmission only.

Since you have the 3D mats and a manual transmission, how does fit work with the manual.....

Might have to try them even though its recommended auto only....

Good spotto, indeed I just made a nice ally heel plate for my drivers mat.
Still available? Great I could do with a set for our 2.5i.

Yeah the issue was one of clearance for the clutch pedal and the solution is as simple as cutting down the forward edge till it clears full pedal travel, that is, an inch or two. No harm visually or physically to the mats as they’re of composite construction ;)

Yeah looks like they no longer stock gen4.
Great mats but the heel pad will eventually wear after a few years.
Iirc we sold 150-200 sets during the GB, maybe it was 50 but it huge regardless.
We had zero dramas really, other than popularity :P

I used checker plate ally, reverse side, 1x gentle bend and 4x 5mm ally rivets with washers on the back.
Does well but a little too smooth, will try a spec B pattern drillium job on the areas with the heel witness marks. :good:

Now I recently learned to anneal ally :)
If I get a sandbag, find my hammers, I should be able to tap out the contours at the base of the firewall and acc pedal area etc ;)

I agree and back in the day, a “member profile” thread always had the first page reserved usually for current photos and updated mods, old mods and mods to be installed.

This thread is no different (go to page one) :)

I really love where the car is at, I’m just maintaining it with a ton of upgrades to do when necessary :)
Eg overhaul and upgrade the LOT, again :P

I had to health check my buddy’s lib, so I thought, why not make an afternoon of it using (with permission) the forecourt of my local garage.

Now I should have posted here first, but reverted to FB and a few old school members showed up regardless. Plus I wanted a chill, reasonable amount of attendees as there’s a limit of 20 people in public groups observing social distancing atm in Vic.

What went down?
I had high hopes of washing my car, doing a UEC treatment and fitting bonnet struts, but the whole arvo was doing LV’s, posing for pics and yakking it up bigtime with new and old friends, just like in the times before the now times that are slowly returning to kind of normal times.

Anyhow much success, and I’ll defo post here for the next time, soon!

Generally at short notice or just tee up a time to visit!

I’ve been meaning to do another meet but due to work being hectic, I tend to favour just sleeping on weekends :P

Even doing basic logging & LV’s on half a dozen cars becomes a bit of an organisational nightmare.

I’m thinking of starting a closed FB group specifically for health checks.

Eg one post per member, that post is solely for health checking that car.

Or do it right here lol.

I'm pretty keen to learn how to create and view the logs properly using the tactrix or btssm, and also how to change a few things in the tune without bricking the ecu!

Any chance of a tutorial or youtube video on any of those?

Do you have your own Tactrix?

I use megalog viewer for RR & Btssm logs.
Free version is fine, but the paid version has scatter graphs which are awesome!

The main thing is to have complete redundancy when flashing, and be aware of the log code that suggests a successful flash.

Iirc most useful is the Romraider forum FAQ’s :good:

Ecuflash uses prompts for saving and flashing logs, but doesn’t automatically tell you if the flash was successful: gotta peep the log code for that.
