Still waiting on Bruce from Custom Cluster Development to finish my cluster so I can fit my Motec C127. I submitted the design in Sep last year and sent a stock instrument cluster to CCD in December so they could start work. It shouldn't take this long!

And, as for the built gearbox.... I gave up on PAR entirely after waiting almost a year. Ridiculous.

I'm starting to think I'll die of old age before this car is ever finished. I'm sure my mental health is suffering from just "waiting" for things to, maybe, eventuate.

Anyway thankfully as of this week I can say there is some light at the end of the tunnel (and not because I've died of old age).

The plan now is to do a gearbox conversion to a WRX STI 6 speed instead.

Not an easy job I'm told. Custom fabrication needed to fit the STI gearbox and move the engine mount position. The headers need to be redesigned and wastegates moved as well. Will also replace driveline components and clutch etc. The car has been back and forth to G88 a few times in the past months to get measurements taken etc. to see if it is possible.

This should be a much better long term solution as well, since various components of my car should then be interchangeable with WRX STI parts, of which there are heaps more options available (i.e. a sequential gearbox should just drop in, hmmmmm).

Work should be underway in June... fingers crossed everything goes to plan!

Bit late to the party but I'm speaking to All Drive Subaroo at the moment about building my stock 6MT to handle the torque that our cars put down with a TBE and standard engine. Second gear seems to want to explode around the 500nm mark, heaps of US guys are replacing boxes left right and centre. Long story short, our boxes share the same internals as a 2015+ WRX aside from reverse gear which is slightly different, and ADS are confident they can build stronger gearsets for our boxes. Might be an option for you as opposed to going down the STi gearbox path.

Interesting, are the 6MT's in a Gen 5 GT different to those in a Gen 4 H6/GT FL?

I think they're different. Gen 5 GT has a cable operated shifter for one thing (like the 2015 WRX). Also it seems my specific gearbox was only ever used in the 2010 & 2011 model GT. It changed again in 2012+.

Yes, they're very different guys. Gen5 is essentially a 5 speed with an extra gear added, while the gen4 6MT is actually a nice beefy box, very much like the Sti 6MTs. Guys are running insane power on stock gen4/Sti 6 speeds.

I see, that's why I was confused. Clears it up. Interesting.

Yep, what others have said. The split-case 6MT in the 2015+ WRX and Gen5 is essentially a WRX 5 speed with another gear shoved in, whereas the Gen4 6MT is essentially an STi gearbox without DCCD. I think some had different ratios and were mated to an R160 diff instead of the R180 found in the STi too.

I ended up getting a quote from ADS for a built box including a new shot peened and ISF treated gearset, carbon fibre synchros, and RS20 viscous coupling. They advised it was good to handle 250awkw, probably more but they hadn't tested it beyond that.

I'm not going to publicly share the price, but it wasn't as bad as I expected seeing as this was an exchange service. PM me if you want the price I was quoted.

Yeah I might speak to them too, my 4th syncro has always been a bit sus and 2nd can be so hard to down shift into, even with perfect rev matches, I might speak to them too.

UPDATES!? :)

Wow - can't believe my last post was in June... far out. Anyway it's been a long time since an update, but things have been happening - just very slowly as per usual. :(

- The gearbox conversion to a WRX STI Spec C 6 speed was actually completed months ago.
- Also finished upgrading all drive line components (R180 rear diff, custom tail shaft, custom driveshafts, HKS LA twin plate clutch, etc).
- Fuel system has been revised, so the surge tank now consists of a dual pump setup which should hopefully address the drop in fuel pressure at 380awkw.

So the car has essentially been ready for quite a while, but unfortunately sitting waiting on tuning for months now.... hopefully not too long off but who knows.

In other news, I finally received my custom cluster a couple of weeks ago (after waiting 1.5 years!).

Looks fantastic, and exactly to my design specs. Bruce at CCD does great quality work, but the wait time is ridiculous.

So now I just need to get this installed and my MoTeC C127 set up, which should happen when the car gets tuned.

Also decided to upgrade to 19" wheels for the street which should fill the guards a bit more without having to go any lower.

I'd noticed last year Yokohama released the ADVAN RS-DF Progressive in 19x9.5 5x100 so had been thinking about it for a while... always liked this wheel but they weren't available when I bought the ZE40's, otherwise I probably would have bought these in the first place. Oh well, now I have a set of ZE40 18's for the track I suppose, haha.

Now just waiting for new tyres to be fitted.

Decided on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 255/35R19 as these should be more compliant on the street than the AD08R's which I was finding quite harsh to be honest, especially with our shitty roads.

Finally, this happened to my Outback 3R a couple of months ago... quite a milestone - and still going strong. :o

Wow man that is crazy, I feel insufficient only having 355,000km's. The H6 really is impressive, but not as much as your Gen 5, so happy to see you progressing with it man!

Well done mick

Really loving that update

Especially impressed with the cluster :good:

Can't wait to go for a ride once retuned

Holy shitballs!

How difficult was the STi gearbox swap?!
