Did you install the steering wheel yourself? I receive my new used MY10 GT next week and I'd love to put that wheel on it. Curious about process/costs??

Great car by the way, love what you've done with it.

Thanks for the comments, and congrats on your purchase!

Nah Garage 88 installed mine, I think it was ~$650.

If you wanted to install it yourself I don't think it would be too hard. Should be similar process to this one (not DAMD but you get the idea): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AULFWUq-V4

What do you use to get the track position, rpm and speed overlays on the video? They're great!

Here's what you need to make your own awesome videos like that. 8)

  • GoPro camera(s) or equivalent
  • Android mobile phone or tablet
  • Bluetooth OBD adaptor (I use an OBDLink MX Bluetooth adaptor)
  • RaceChrono for Android (with OBD device reader enabled - has trial period after which in app purchase required)
  • RaceRender 3 software (I paid - it's cheap / great value in my opinion)
With RaceChrono you can export your recorded telemetry to CSV, which can be read by RaceRender and then overlaid on the video footage. RaceRender is very good software with lots of options. It can be a bit tricky to synchronise your telemetry with the video footage, but RaceRender has inbuilt tools to do that which work well.

I recommend using your OBD (ECU) speed rather than the GPS speed, as the GPS speed lags a bit as seen in the video above.

I'm thinking of buying another GoPro camera for the Wakefield track day this year, so I can get some split-screen or picture-in-picture video footage with telemetry overlaid (or if someone can loan me a GoPro that would be sweet  )

Michael, I've got a spare go pro, you just need to supply a mount of some sort.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Here's some more videos like the above from a track day I did at SMP GP Circuit on Thursday. :D

I did a few 2:01 laps which seemed about the best I could manage.
Top speed 204kph (actual).

I thought I would get some sub 2min laps as that was what I used to do on my motorbike consistently IIRC, but I guess not in the car. There was a bit of traffic at times so hard to get in a clear lap, plus I need to work on my lines/apexes which could be better. :?

Brakes are great now for track days! (no melting problems yay) No other new updates to the car unfortunately though, other than having a SARD low temp thermostat installed which may have helped at the track a bit.

I think I would like more power though.

Thanks Simon - was a great day!

Forgot to mention I also bumped into Michael & Eric and crew from Garage 88 while I was there (walking down the pit in front of me as I parked in a garage haha). They were there testing the shops BRZ86 in the morning, that thing sure looks like a weapon!

Haha awesome profile vid!

Minor suggestions to Simon;
For panning, maybe jump on a skate board and crouch or sit on it and roll along the cars. Also might wanna aim a little higher, the shot seemed a bit too low.

Also if you've got a zoom camera you should shoot from afar and zoom in that way you dont get any reflections of yourself or anyone in the shot.
