I'm still not sure what to do about the subs. Currently just using the stock crappy 8 inch till I figure it out. I usually run a 12" with splits at the front but I've seen some guys running a better 8 inch in their liberties. I'm just not sure if it would be enough although I know what you mean about having a sealed 12" in the same space that a free air 8inch is using... what do you reckon would work better? My tastes are pretty varied (drum and bass, dubstep, hip hop, rnb, jazz). Prefer a nice clean sound with tight bass but still able to hit some of the deeper/lower frequencies. Certainly not after big SPL. LOL...

I was running a Vibe Space8 in the parcel shelf with front splits. Wasn't too bad at the time.

However after my mate blew the Vibe Space8 when testing the aftermarket headunit, I changed to a 12" in a sealed enclosure. Have never looked back. Ended up going a better 12", in a bigger sealed box (currently taking up half the boot) and I've just requested designs for an even bigger box (ported - will take up almost the whole boot) that will make full use of the subs/amps full potential!

Just reading your post and I'm a little confused, are you going to run a 12" sub as well as an 8" in the parcel shelf??? Not a good idea, but I may have read it wrong.

If it helps I'm running old (very old) Focal Utopia (paid something like $300 for them) on the front with deadening,
left the rear suckers are they are, disconnected the McCrapTosh 8",
deadened the rear parcel shelf and
runnning a focal 12" [sealed I think] (probably a polyglass or whatever range they used to call them) and instead of the Mc amp I have the Alpine PDX 5.1100.

Works a treat imho - I listen to a bit of everything etc. some say its worth doing the rears..upping the ante on amps...but I need the $ for handling so that will wait.

but..you've done really well cleaning all that up!! **salute**

Sounds like a 12" is the go then! sweet.

I prefer sealed over ported and the smaller the volume the better for me (more because I don't want to give up too much space or add too much weight). I'll deaden the parcel shelf and pull out the stock sub when I get a chance.

Not an uncommon problem. Take this opportunity to go an aftermarket radiator, easy job to DIY.

Yep, unfortunately there's no real way around it. I found a forum member selling it for $350 so bit the bullet...
