Golf r wagons are only coming out in the Wolfsburg edition afaik which are 65k! But if you sat on the lib for 2 years they might be in budget. Newer passats are good but look very mundane

Not much choice for people like us unfortunately :(

This is probably what is going to happen with me which I dont mind. I just dont want to settle for the sake of it. It needs to grab me like the LGT did when I first bought it.

imo keep the GT for a few more years and then buy a 2 year old Levorg or Golf R or whatever you like at the time

That is my long term plan, keep mine for 2 or 3 more years and then upgrade to a 16/17 WRX

I think it would be a real shame to move your car on now when you have just gotten to a stage where it's pretty much spot on. So I would agree with hanging on to the GT for a bit longer until you can afford something you really want. I can't think of anything worse than going from a car that you like and really still want to drive to something that is just not quite there, just because it's newer.
That's my 10c worth. :-)

Fair point there Nikolai. There are some other things I still want to do to the car but will cost a bit of coin to get done the way I want it. But the way I look at it, if I get it done now I have nearly 3 years to enjoy those fruits and the car the way it is before anything were to happen.

I was seriously torn between an R36 wagon and the Liberty but for the price and what you get, the Liberty won hands down. I am not a fan of the rear of the R36 wagons though, everything else to me looks great, especially the front. I almost bought a 2000 RS4 wagon before the Liberty but an expensive risk it would have been.

I loved the RS4 that the Top Gear guys test drove through the mountains. But with that 6 figured price tag I knew it would be well out of my reach for decades. If anything, the Golf R wagon, the Levorg ST or if I could get my hands on a limited edition turbo Forester XT in a few years I would be very happy. I think I am looking for that special car. Something that not only does the chores I need it to but has that uniqueness to say, I got the limited edition model.

At the time I bought the GT I was wanting an R36 badly but the lease price for them was over my budget. Now they are a lot more affordable but are not within the criteria of new lease. :?

I am happy to wait for now. The car is running excellent mechanically. I just need to sort some niggle paint things I have always wanted to do and I will continue to enjoy for the next few years until I can afford the car I really want rather than I car I will settle for.
Cheers

RS4's really are the business aye. One of the very few wagons i'd take over the Legacy, if money was no concern of course
2000 JDM Legacy B4 RSK - SOLD
2006 JDM Legacy BP5 GT Spec B wagon
2011 VW T5 van 2.0L of turbo diesel awesomeness

The other option you could put on your shopping (wish) list is an Audi RSQ3. Stock they're a little de-tuned but with just a flash tune you can get 300kW and 500+Nm plus a cracker exhaust note out of the 5 cylinder. I reckon in a year or 2 you should be able to pick one of these up for under $50k as they're on carsales at the moment for $70k with 10k on the clock.

There's also the RS3 but these are a lot newer and may have to wait a bit more until they come onto the second-hand market in your price range.
