Hi Guys,

I'm Owen and earlier this year I bought a 2001 MY02 Liberty RX Gen 3, 2.5L-NA wagon metallic silver. VERY tidy and well cared for, only 108,000km.




Previous car: 1994 Gen 2 Liberty GX wagon in white & drove for over 7 years which I just sold, but got many great tips for it from here. I'm also a bass player (Bassman, really creative huh!), spend most spare cash on music gear and am a Mod for a music forum.

List of Mods to come (basic stuff really):
1. Tyres, something quiet that handles well, maybe RE002's
2. Tinting windows, 35% back and sides
3. New HU - Marty at Fhrx suggested Clarion CZ702A.

4. Front speakers - yet to be decided.
5. Acoustic treating - Damping front doors, rear floor, heavy floor mats (MLV, etc).

Goals:
• a car that's quiet so I can listen to bass guitar lines in music without cranking the stereo,
• Fun to drive (street only) but still comfortable as my daily/long trips - quiet, smooth ride, no drone on freeways (110km/h on concrete).
• Doesn't roast in the sun + privacy for music gear kept in rear/back seat sections.

Suggestions/Advice is welcome.

Thanks man!! I've been reading heaps on sound treatment here. Very helpful. My first goal is to reduce Low Frequency drone.


* New Tyres jump to top of the list.
Doing 70km/hr on smooth road and turning engine off only gave a very slight drop in noise level. I'm guessing Tyre noise and panel resonance.


Tap test - 4 doors & bonnet ring out noticeably, roof & spare wheel well the worst.
=> Doors getting done by Marty as soon as I decide on speakers (splits).

I'd go darker than 35% tint. I have 20 and don't think it's dark enough

Unless you want night time visibility without the windows open of course.
You might get used to having darker tint but you definitely don't have as good visibility as you would with 35%.

I'm still undecided - one tint shop suggested I keep the tailgate and front sides 35%, but put 20% on the rest for better privacy/security for my expensive music gear.

Night time visibility is important as I drive prob more at night than the day. I'd would like to avoid nasty glare thru my mirrors from the soccer mums and their SUV's glaring headlights (down side with low cars).

In my experience its the front side windows that affect you the most in terms of night time visibility. Rear window not as much of an issue.

Anyone tried Goodyear F1 Directional 5 tyres yet?

It's between F1D5 $195ea, Bridgestone Re002's $189ea, or Yoko ADVAN dB V551's $249. Its for 205/50R16 alloys, few performance tyres in this size.

Car: MY02 RX wagon N/A, no track stuff.
Goals: Wet grip > Low Noise > Performance > Longevity/Price
Budget: $200-300/corner.
