So my clutch was fixed on Friday, I replaced it with a single mass flywheel conversion, genuine parts as the kit came with new forks, clutch etc, it was a complete replacement of all clutch components. Here is the main issue of the failure, the throw out bearing. This is one half of the bearing. Those of you who know a bit about clutches will know that this particular part should only have one piece
I also painted my calipers an anodized/metallic blue today, and I received a PM or two about my calipers on how I got the finish so I thought I'd update.
Obviously, people know the gist of painting calipers.
This is the gear I used - it is rated to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, the same as VHT Caliper Paint - that being said though, I don't think it is resistant to brake fluid...
Oh well, #YOLO
Hit it with the silver ground coat first, I did three coats as recommended, but I don't generally listen to the waiting times for each coat. I waited 5-8 mins per coat, until touch dry and if you know how to use a spray pack, you won't have any runs. I am impatient though
The ground coat is 100% necessary not only for the metallic/anodized finish, but it also acts as an adhesive/sealant aid because the blue colour is only really a tint - it's meant to go over chrome for the anodized look.
Here's the colour after one coat. I applied heavy coats and did three coats to get a darker blue finish, it depends on the amount of coast and the type of coats you apply for the shade of blue. Be careful of runs, it's easy to do when spraying the color on.
And the finished product. Sorry for the dodgy iPhone pics, it was dark and I only managed to finish the fronts today, I will do the rears tomorrow and post some more pics weather permitting.
I also frosted my tail lights (the last thing I bought before my clutch fiasco, some people don't like it, some do, and I like the glow effect. It works well for the PreFL taillights IMO.
