Boost Gauge Cubby..Pics

Postby SkoobyGT » Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:24 pm

I have my Autometer boost gauge and it has always been near the A-Pillar in a CF cup.

I moved it today into the cubby above the clock.

IMO looks quite good, more stealth, and the cover can still close.

I doubt anyone is interested but this is how I did it;

Used a piece of cardboard to get a template.
Traced around it onto a piece of wood (treated pine decking)
Trial fitted it, sanded, shaped to get a snug fit.
Cut the hole for the gauge to fit in.
Took the whole centre piece out by just pulling it, no real clips.
Drilled a small hole for the power wires and tubing to go through.
Plugged it all together.
Covered the face of my wood with a piece of factory floor mat carpet.
Carpet was the one that came from the factory, so it blends in well.
Push the wood with the gauge in, and it fits snug so it doesnt need to be screwed in.
Enjoy
Cost me nothing at all, took about an hour to fiddle.

hahahhaha You wouldn't have read it if you didn't care hahah

I want two gauges, OIL and BOOST.

This was a "trial" fit to see how it worked etc, and I will then buy two more gauges, black face that match, and put them both in there.

Tons of room

Interim gauge haha.

Mike love your work. Great to see ppl trying new stuff on their cars :)

Every morning when I get in the car, I go to lift that same spot and grab my sunnies out and I think... hmmmm should I get gauges? where would I put my sunnies then?

I have one of those sunglass clip things that I clip to my sunvisor for my sunnies. Much more convenient than the cubby holder :)

Does anybody reccomend another gauge to get. Not brands, just type?

I was thinking along the lines of Oil Temp or Water Temp?

What would be beneficial for the GT?

YES i was very interested - not enough pics etc

I have the same series autometer gauges as yours & Ive been thinking about installing them but too lazy to actually do it, Ive got the vacum/boost (max 20psi) gauge, oil pressure & water temp all mechanical.
I think ill just use the boost & oil gauge but ill have to get an isolator so i can run it in the car.
The gauges came from my old car that didn't matter in the position they were mounted (down low)being mechanical, & yes i did have a oil leak :( lucky the only thing under the gauge was the carpet & no electrics

i know that there is a company that makes actual plastic pieces that fit inside there perfectly. you can get one that is blank, has 1 hole, 2 holes, 3 holes and i think up to 2 of the bigger guages in another. there is even one where it fits 1 guage on one side and keeps half the pocket useable on the other. I have the link on my other computer and will post it up here if anyone is interested!

I think freight is a little pricey for 1 item but I would hasten to say a group buy may be in order and Im sure a discount for some quantity is not an unreasonable request.
