Sunroof Tint

Had my sunroof tinted by Rob from Car Tint.

Today was the first day I was able to drive around without closing the shade blind. Pretty much any day that was warm/bright I would pull the shade blind as too much heat radiated through the sunroof, not anymore..

Not sure if Rob has afiliates in other states (pm him), to all the mexicans on here, get it done, its awesome.

As you can see, I'm a happy customer :D

Any pictures? All tinter's that I spoke to won't do sunroof tinting due to it risk cracking the glass for some reason. :(

i'll take some tomorrow but it looks like normal tint.

I have friends who had this done by Rob 6 to 7yrs ago and they haven't had any issues with cracking glass. I've always wanted to do it but never got around until today.

Below is an extract that he posted on the vic wrx club website

This film is totally unique because it has a non-reflective internal characteristic which is perfectly suited for this application. You don't get the mirror reflection back at night and it has the reflective metalised barrier coating to the outside which is exactly where you want the performance to work.

The mounting adhesive is also a high performance pressure sensitive product which can take massive heat and can adhere successfully to the painted dot matrix edges and be contour moulded to fit the curve of the roof.

A truely fantastic product which is thermal shock safe unlike other junk out there on the market that is just adapted and not designed for this application.

I was also told by the tinters when I had the GT done they wouldnt do the sunroof due to the cracking issues.

I soooo want it done though. Cant have the blind open when its hot. :(

Give Rob a call. He is located in Ringwood Nth, a bit of a hike for us in the western suburns but trust me, its well worth it.

I just asked another tinter place as Rob only open weekdays and I can't make it

quote from the "Other" tinter
no one can tint sunroofs – they have different glass and can shatter in the heat shrinking processs.

I might take a day off soon to get Rob to tint the sunroof

Is our sun roof glass very curved? If its curved horizontally only, it shouldn't require heat shrinking to apply it?

My window tinter wouldn't do my sunroof either. He said he would do it only if I signed a disclaimer stating that he isn't responsible for any damage caused.

Figured it must be a real issue since he had a disclaimer on hand and pulled it straight out of a folder.. I didn't do it

defenetly looking at doing this, I find that on hot days the sunroof does let a lot of heat in, even when the shutter is closed, need a barrier, something to block the heat from entering through the glass, but something that doesn't make my sunroof too dark ..

I wonder If he would sent the tint interstate, hoping the the glass only curves in one direction for application...
