I had it repaired by a local car audio specialist. I believe speaker repair kits can also be purchased if you want to do a DIY repair and save some bucks though I've never done that.

Have a read in the Audio forum - if you're considering a professional repair (bearing in mind it's an arse to get the parcel shelf out and time is money) I'd recommend looking at upgrading to another 6-8 inch sub with high sensitivity which is suited to a free-air installation (i.e. not in a sealed or ported enclosure). Although the stock amp is weak as balls, a good sub can still sound better than the stock one.

Thanks.

Also added Dixcel SD rears & M pads to match the fronts since it was about time for a change, plus Goodridge braided lines thanks to Marky Mark's group buy from the US a few months back. Plus a brake cylinder stopper.

Brake mods now finished (though every time I see a mildly cheap set of suitable Brembo's I reconsider).
Rear sway bar needed.
Will probably go for some Raptor headers at a minimum, with exhaust mods (replace one cat with collector, install high flow cats for the other two)
Still dreaming of the Raptor spinny whine wheel.
Trying to avoid spending money on decent coilovers too. Don't mind the Bilstein setup TBH, just want a little more low and better damping - but not convinced it's worth the price. (Cusco Zero 2E or similar)

Mate I'm liking the caliper colour. I want to do the same on my lib. I think it would look great against my diamond grey paint. The colour looks similar to 'Fusion' like the cv8z monaro. Do you know if that is that name or the same code as it?

Thanks - took me a while to find exactly what I wanted! I agree the colour would probably look good against diamond grey paint, as it's good against my steel grey wheels which usually appear a bit darker than the photo above.

The colour is Duplicolor Metalcast Orange - MC205. The paint had to be ordered in at request by Repco. I ordered 2x cans of MC100 base coat and 2x MC205.

Note that Duplicolor Metalcast is a high temp paint but not specifically a brake paint and is only designed to withstand up to 260 degrees C. I figure that's OK for me as I'm not tracking the car; I'm sure others on here would have more useful data on how hot calipers are likely to actually get under varied use cases.

Dupicolor also have base coats and adhesion promoters and it's a bit confusing working out exactly which ones to use - the FAQs add to the confusion. I ended up e-mailing Duplicolor and they provided me with this response:

Dupli-Color wrote:You will need to use the Metalcast Ground Coat (MC100) first prior to the Metalcast Color Coat. While both of these products can withstand up to 500 degrees F making them suitable for calipers be sure not to apply too much of each. If you apply too much product the film build will be to great and it will crack and peel.

Do not use the Adhesion Promotor (CP199) on your calipers. This product can only withstand up to 120 degrees making it not suitable for use on calipers which get much hotter. You can apply the Metalcast Ground Coat or just the Metalcast Color Coat to the calipers. If you apply just the Metalcast Color Coat spray a test spot first to ensure you are pleased with the results.

Mark (cruisn) stripped and painted these calipers. He also had the following comments:

cruisn wrote:I did two heavy coats of the base silver and then the orange top coat is so thin, to achieve a dark color I did numerous coats, didnt count, but more than 4.
...
Brakes are done, bitch of a finish to get even color due to how thin the color coat is. Had just enough color coat.

Very helpful information mate. Thanks for your response. I'll ask my local parts shop if he can source that particular brand. Cheers. When I get around to painting my calipers I'll upload some pics amd let you know.

No worries - good luck. Apparently it can be tricky getting an even coat with that paint so you might want a third can of the colour just in case.

I just googled that Commodore colour and yeah it looks like a pretty close match to me.

I know it's been sometime since the last post :P But i was wondering how the caliper paint has held up since.

The only worry is that all the nice aerosol colours are engine metallics and they don't come anywhere near caliper temp resistances.

Totally fine. Just a few small stone chips and maybe one from a bad nudge while fitting. no discolouration or general failure of the paint. Pretty much as I had hoped and expected - I have not tracked the car; I just push it a little on the road. If tracked it may not hold up.

Ah good stuff! I might be looking at something similar for my calipers; layer some Caliper Primer, then VHT Engine Metallic, and then Caliper Clear on top. :)

Love your ride mate. :D

Thanks :-)

Should be sturdy. Unfortunately I couldn't find the colour I wanted in proper caliper paint.
