Well, i guess since my car didn't make it to dyno day thanks to the fried clutch, i might as well post an update.
Firstly, i apologise for the lack of photo's. If it wasn't for justin being there with the camera, there'd be none along the way.
The plan was to do a little something before dyno day, but sadly it didn't work out that way.
From 173.4kw atw, i decided to add a couple of things to my setup.
Grimspeed 3 port boost controller
Sti short shifter (thanks Bruce for sourcing this!)
Aeromotive stealth 340lph fuel pump
ID1000 injectors
Perrin Top mount.
The idea was to put stuff on now that will help later onwards for when i decide to upgrade the turbo. These items would need to be required anyway, so i figured i would do it now to not worry about them later.
There was a lot learnt with this journey.
1. the fuel pump cradle had to be modified to hold the pump in properly.
2. the injector o-rings needed to be replaced to bigger rings (or doubled up) so they don't leak when being pressed down on quite hard (not exactly a real world test but better to be safe than sorry!) for testing.
3. Justin wouldn't let me swap out his front seats with mine...
4. Having friends to support you while you take your modding journey is a great thing (Thanks Justin and Bruce)
A U shaped bracket was made to make sure the engine cover could be bolted down without the need for cutting the cover.
With everything fitted, the tune was being done Friday (the day before dyno day).
First tune was done on Premium 100. Justin and myself went there for lunch that day and we picked his car up afterwards while mine was still being tuned.
Premium 100 tune = 195kw atw. I believe Danny wound it back to 190kw for safety. All in all a fantastic result!
The next tune was done on E85.
I was told to pick the car up at 5pm. I get a lift down there and see my car is on the dyno. I can hear him still tuning it and it looks like it was running quite well. Justin rocked up because he forgot his bag there, but i'm glad he did!
On the last run on the dyno, the clutch fried. We heard it slip, and we thought maybe it was the wheel slipping on the dyno, but the second one proved that it was the clutch as it left that awesome smell.
For such an unfortunate thing to happen, the only thing that i could walk away with was the dyno result printed out for me.
E85 = 210kw atw.
Very impressed with the result but won't know what it drives like until the end of this week! Justin was so kind to let me drive his car back to my place to try and make me feel better. Needless to say, his car will either put a smile on your dial, or the G force will force one on you.
Today i dropped off an Exedy HD clutch kit and a new SMF which is lighter than the current flywheel. I didn't go out of my way to get a lighter flywheel, it's just the one they ordered to match the clutch. Northern Brake and Clutch were the only ones that had stock of the clutch but had to order the flywheel to match (took 1 day). Thanks Gino for the reference!
So the clutch is dropped off and Springy will be starting the install today.
Once the car is back together, i believe that it's going back on the dyno to adjust the idle settings and it's good to go.
I'd like to thank those of you who have been supportive along the journey, Gambbit, Jaydece, Bass_straitener, 3rspecb and anyone else i've missed.
Justin's posted most of the photo's already in his thread, but here's one he's left out deliberately.
P.S - I can't wait to use the short shift!!
