kiahatsiu wrote:Finally got around to playing with the alternator wiring today. Ended up removing the red and black wire, which is the ecu control. Ran it up on the dyno and...it pulled through to redline. Did this 5-6 times to be sure. Tony from Coyote Tuning will be spending a bit of time on in the near future and we shall test the overkill fuel system.

I also cracked the shits with the old Tilton scavenge pump and replaced it with a VDO one. The old one was LOUD, and was leaking about 500ml of oil every 3-4 days. It also smoked on startup a shit load. The VDO pump is quiet, doesn't leak, and doesn't blow smoke, so I am over the moon. I can also hear my stereo again due to the lack of constant pump drone.

Congrats, that's great news!

Any downsides to having the alternator on at WOT?

Not that I can tell at the moment. But all will be relieved in the future.

Haha I know what you mean, I get excited when I see this thread has updates :D

Where did you install the PW surge tank??

Good to hear it's some what sorted Ian.

My two main concerns would be that the alt is putting out too higher voltage at upper RPM (easy check with a multimeter. Under 14.7v is where you want to be)
Other than that you can potentially wear out the alt quicker as it's charging (and generating heat) at higher RPM than previously allowed by the ECU.

Power > Alternator life

Agreed.

But too high voltage = electrical component death. Which is no mi gusta.

I had read their page benny, but in the end I still went with the VDO. If it is good enough to be OEM on turbo Porkers it is good enough for me. Also the site is awesomely bad. It needs dancing babies and flying letterboxes to lock it down though.

So this thing has spend a few weeks being a piece of shit. It was running well but a slight miss at 6200 rpm every time under load, like a timing pull, but nothing shows up.
So, to counter this, I added a shit load of Earths, changed the coils, changed the plugs again, and added an optima d34 battery.
To no avail.
So yesterday I went to Tony's and he loaded up an old tune on wastegate pressure and I lowered the fuel pressure back to stock. I run LV every few days, but when Tony ran it he found a neutral position switch code. Tony mentioned that this is a known snag with Subarus, which causes random issues. I spoke to Al at AMauto and the first thing he mentioned was that it messes with AVCS. This feels like what is happening. I stopped in a John French to steal a VIN number off a H6 manual car to get the parts from Subaru but they had on in stock, so a new NPS will get fitted tomorrow. I will belt the shit out of the old washer with a mallet and use that as so the sensor has better penetration into the gearbox.

Also, the car is revving out cleanly on 19psi, and is a pleasure to drive.

Apart from the ear splitting screamer pipe that is.

That could explain the issues I am having at the moment.

Car was running great with clean LV'S then I checked again the week after and found this.

I'll have a go at replacing the switch this weekend.

Cheers mate.

Finger's crossed it fixes it mate. Especially after all the tail chasing you've been doing.

Iirc that's why I've previously recommended putting the car in gear, clutch in, for stationary avcs diagnostic logging.
I'll have to make sure in the relevant threads :P
And add the NPS parameter to my logs...
