Yeah, it used to be a very neat wagon, but alas, it spent 7 months at my ex's, and well, it appears she drove it when I was overseas, into things that is.

Update: Fuel pump now replaced with an AVO jobbie. Expensive, but meh!

Well, went to willowbank on Saturday, 13.9 at 100mph. Indicates this old girl isn't making much power. The vf34 just runs out off puff. I suspect I will be undertaking a similar build to what dr20t is proposing. It is a shame the 5 speed is so fragile as the ratios would be dandy with tons of stomp.
Also considering a bbk 20g contraption as an interim boosting device.

Did you end up sorting out that rev hunt problem / boost creep? This maybe one of the reasons it felt underpowered. 180 atw should be getting low 13s at least and 107-108 trap speeds

Yeah, the hunting was sorted out. There were a few air leaks. I am going to grab a tactrix cable and log it, I suspect there a few more air leaks.
I went out for a drive on a private test track with a chap with an 02 sti Rex that had 180 at the wheels and ran away from him.... So i just don't know.

So made a few changes yesterday. Fitted a boost gauge. Was running 18 psi at around 3500 rpm then falling back to 15 by 6000ish. Changed dodgy 'drift' filter for a slightly larger k&n which made it seem a little smoother. Did some experimenting with the wastegate and found that the vf34 on my car simply couldn't maintain boost above 6. Ended up changing most of the vac lines and plastic t pieces related to boost control which yielded much better boost response. However it now spikes up to 21 psi, holds that for a while and falls back, I haven't noted what it falls too as I am busy looking at objects rapidly approaching.
I think I will get a grimspeed 3 port and have the car retuned, drive it around as such for a while and build a mid spec ej255 with forgies and decent rods, run the stock avcs heads with some kelfords cams and either a gtx3076 or a gtx3582. I want something that holds boost to the red line and is some what reliable.

Nice one, running 21psi now would be the best excuse for a built ej. Do it! Also be great to see another built wagon .

Sounds good Ian.

The boost tapering off to 15 at 6000rpm may be deliberately setup by the tuner.

Its probably better for your turbo and motor that way anyway, as usually the efficiency of the turbo drops off at higher rpm anyway and more boost may mean higher intake temps and less efficiency.

Could also be your boost controller (assuming its the stock solenoid) which is not holding the boost flat enough

Go and squeeze those hoses. There are some little plastic restrictors inside that are important for boost control (but not required with a 3 port).
