DIY - Intercooler Water Sprayer

Postby jacks-GTB » Sun Sep 11, 2011 4:57 pm

Hey dudes,

I finished my DIY water intercooler sprayer on my 07 Liberty. It took a little mucking around but i did it... I also put a thermostat on the intercooler itself, to a Digital display of the temp, so i can the difference after the sprayer. And that sits in the glovebox.

I got some pics for you

Nice one.

Need to tape or spiral wrap your cables though for neatness. ;)

Awesome, have you got the readings of the temps?

Those water droplets are huge! What nozzles did you use; I'm pretty sure other kits i've seen it is a very very fine mist to allow for quick evaporation.

Also it may be more accurate for you to measure IAT via the ECU rather than stick a probe inbetween the cooling fins.

Yeah i took it for a drive before but it was getting late, but outside temps were about 17 and after the spray (at about 80km) it went as low as 14.5..
so it's doing its job..

i'm pretty stoked about it...

They look huge because the bonet is up... but when it is down, it sprays fine.. i did some tweaking to get it right on the intercooler...I also pulled over, and the water had all ready evaporated...

Yeh i'll look into something like with the temp readings...

Nice one!

If you are using too much water, try the Subaru Genuine Intercooler Water Spray Nozzles for a finer mist.
Part Number: 86636FA120
$27ish from Subaru, $23ish from MRT (2 req)

Agree on the nozzles but measuring IAT temp with the ECU is useless. The sensor is built into the MAF sensor, before the turbo. Dumb design.
