uh-oh - problem while fitting strut brace

Postby tangcla » Wed Sep 26, 2007 9:28 pm

hey guys,
Got a slight problem here... the guys who fitted my springs last time must have over-tightened the three studs on the front shock towers, and when I tightened them after fitting the strut brace, one of them snapped.

How bad is this? :?

Easy to blame other people but you did it on your own. They are meant to be nipped.

I snapped one too when i fitted the strut brace to the lib.

I got some from the wrecker and a mate fitted it for me.

yeah, I've come to the conclusion that I was just too strong.

A bit of research shows that the stock studs are just too thin and it's a common problem for overtightening. My bad

Just replace it - you can buy them from any Subaru dealer.

They only sell the topmount as a whole, not the studs individually.

Didn't know that - but atleast now you have an answer. Or you could go to a fastner supplier and get those bolts ?

I'd really like to see someone post up some pics of the stock shock topmount right about now ;)
