His call came due to my posts here - talk about after sales service :)

gotta love the Phat man....... your in safe hands.

make sure those bolts are tight and gasket is seated correctly....... and don't forget the O2 sensor is tightened

Senator - I got the DP installed by an exhaust specialist so . . . when the car comes from the smash repairers (Wednesday?) I'll be taking it straight back to them.

It's funny, initially I went to get the Dp installed before the smash repairs so that I could have a "test run" before losing the car for the smash repairs. Now I wish I had waited :(

Enkei and the rest

Postby GTB Liberty » Tue May 18, 2010 7:51 pm

American Dave came for a ride recently. He placated fears (thanks Dave) I had RE dump pipe install and on a listen n cursory look determined I'm just hearing the new freer flowing noises and nothing is wrong excepting the lack of tune . ECU has well n truly reigned in the boost now with a standard 14.8-15 peaks.

The fuel economy was simply highly consistent WOT I guess being my first truly performance car I haven't quite got used to "you play you pay" in terms of fuel usage. Had a laugh to myself that even that a quick log of instantaneous fuel usage gave a high of 383 litre per 100 Km. Makes the dash display maximum of 50 look sweet. A return to urban(e) driving has led to a return to an average of approx 13.5-14l which was my previous experience.

A highlight is the 18x8 Sti Enkeis have arrived from Sydney with accompanying Rays Dura nuts. Next on the list is tune, rims n rubber install and Sti pink spring installation. Guess I'm going to have to do some brake upgrades soon. Regardless, am truly enjoying the stages of transition with the Lib .

love them wheels, Got the Rota knock off's on mine there recently as i couldn't find the Enkei's locally. I put 235/40/18 tyres on mine and the do rub slightly off the arch liner on full lock, just something to consider. 225's should be fine.

If that's true Senator that would make them very special indeed. As I aim to have the vehicle for quite some time any mod that adds to the individuality of my car I count as a great add on.

CEL / CRUISE flashing

Postby GTB Liberty » Mon May 24, 2010 8:39 pm

Guys, thought I'd throw in my CEL / cruise light flashing experience from down south drive / holiday this weekend. Only engine mods are the 3" dump pipe and HKS panel filter.

Mine was in cruise sitting on 110 when the cruise came off. Was just after some overtaking in 6th gear. Most interesting/scary was the water temp gauge was hammered vertically RED but the ECUdatscan had it in its normal 80-90 degree C range. STILL was really worried. Lost all ability to swap SI mode as well. Pulled over and ran a CEL error check - no errors? Turn off motor, physically checked the radiator for physical temp, leaks nothing abnormal. On restart still had CEL and cruise flashing BUT dash water temp return to normal position. Still logged no CEL error codes. Drove home quietly. Water temp guage went to vertical again after a while but still read 84 C on the datascan. Car off - car on guage went back to normal. Called Dave - he told me to drive it to ASG to remove CEL but safe to drive home.

Parked car overnight, in the morning NO CEL light or cruise flashing . Back to normal - it seems. Physically checked the radiator again, still had appropriate coolant levels in all tanks including overflow tank.

However, the big screw in the passenger rear tyre this morning was a bit obvious . Changed tyres before drive home. 2 months - two "screwed" RE050As.

Drove back - no CEL or any issues.

Recent additions to the garage

Postby GTB Liberty » Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:35 am

Well well,

Having just read the manual for my girl' new 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan I get a reminder of what's missing from the Liberty.

1. Mirrors that fold in electrically
2. Mirrors that set a different position for reversing - the individual keys hold an individual's settings.
3. Convenience opening and closing of all windows with remote.
4. LAUNCH CONTROL

Lots of nice toys in a Volkswagen.

Traction control off, foot on brake, gear lever in sport or tiptronic, accelerator to 3200 RPM, foot off brake. C'mon Subaru where that one?

Lots of nice toys in a Volkswagen.

The Tiguan has launch control?!

But you'll be amazed the amount of features and creature comforts available for the JDM model. It's just that Subaru Australia decided not to bring any of them across here to keep the costs/price down. And in order to streamline the models, just have pretty 1 or 2 trim levels.

Damn you Subaru Australia! AT LEAST bring them across and make them optional extras that we can at least buy if we wanted them. I wouldn't have minded some sort of 'ultra luxury' package that included such things as push button start or folding mirrors.

Agree.
But I have to say that folding mirrors is a bit useless, I've got it in my GTR and have only used it once lol unless you have it to fold in when the engine is shut off I guess.

Volkswagen let down

Postby GTB Liberty » Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:08 pm

Well - seems that none of the functions mentioned in the handbook apply to "aussie" Tiguan.

No folding mirror, no reverse position mirror . . .

As the car's brand new I promised my girl I wouldn't "LAUNCH" but cursory attempt to try just felt like every auto I ever have know loading up the torque converter with the foot on the brake pedal.

Disappointing :(

Your car's coming up very nicely, I love the 18x8 Enkeis :D

Also as much as I loath when our locally delivered cars get features chopped, I still appreciate the upside which is that the model may otherwise not have been commercially viable to bring to Australia. I'd rather the former than have to resort to a grey import.

I found the launch control clutch switch while fiddling in the pedal box one day.

Who knows, enabling it might involve not a lot more than a software patch.
