Yeh I'm gonna have to get it checked and do some trial and error.

No not any bumps that I know of and I was going straight at the time...

I had a think about it after we got off the phone. The fact that it cut out suddenly and cleanly tells me its an electronic circuit breakdown. A bad earth wouldve fizzled things out a little before causing everything to die. But the fact it happened spontaneously and cleanly tells me something failed.

Check your remote for the aftermarket alarm, then check your biu and then your earths

Agree that it would be scary to happen at a more compromising time (race track would be scary)

I'll pay you with unmentionable things if you help me check it out.

Hey champ.

Just noticed your a shire local, and listened to a few of your sound clips. Being a V8 man for the better part of a decade, the lib is my first boxer. Love the turbo whistle you get from yours. Was it mainly from the Dump pipe?

I wouldnt mind the induction noise, without the drone of an exhaust (being a daily). So thinking just getting a dump pipe and hi-flow cats.

Also how do you find the BOV on an auto?

Matt.

Hey mate,

You're welcome to come for a drive and hear it for yourself! The induction noise came from installing a pod filter, but now have added to that noise by installing a stainless steel turbo inlet pipe and obviously upgrading the turbo. I like the noise of my BOV.

Like I said, you're welcome to come for a drive and hear it in person, my car actually sounds quite beastly now from outside the car but that is mainly due to the turbo upgrade etc.

Nice one! Cheers for the offer mate, but i'm terrible with cars if I take something with more pull than mine ill just chuck a wad of cash at it. I bought this thing to stay a relatively stock daily.

I think my cat is stuffed cos it rattles between 2-3,000 rpm under load in low gear. So was thinking of just getting a dump pipe & intake.

Do you know if Just Jap in Kirawee stock many parts for Libs?

To be honest I've never checked them out. I source all my parts from Garage 88 in Eastern Creek. Bit of a trek for us shire folk but I've only ever ordered parts and had them installed by G88 and have had no issues to date (knock on wood). They use aftermarket parts from Japanese performance brands though, so it's not always the cheapest option, but definitely always good quality!

Re: Member Profile - Rome

Postby Rome_BRZ » Wed May 08, 2013 9:43 am

Ok so unfortunately last night, while driving, my car weirdly shut off again. This time I paid more attention when it happened. My radio and defi gauges still worked, but my dash was completely off as was the engine. I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start it again but it wouldn't crank. The immobiliser light was off (flashes red when activated). I then waited for the immobiliser to come back on, then deactivated it again and subsequently could crank the car like normal.

The funny thing is it is basically 30 days since this happened last, freaky! I spoke to my mechanic uncle, he said if it's not happening on a regular basis (i.e. once every few days or even once a week) it will be very hard for an auto-electrician to diagnose the issue as they could potentially keep the car for hours, rack up a big bill, not have the issue occur at all and then once the car is returned to me could happen straight away! He, Mick (dr20t) and I all think it might have something to do with the immobiliser given the radio and defi gauges still worked while everything else didn't. My uncle has suggested I get the immobiliser disconnected for now to see if the issue replicates itself.

The joys of owning a car :angry2:

A dying or faulty alternator will give off weird poltergeist type signals. Checked?

Negative has not been checked yet, but only because a faulty alternator would mean radio would shut off too wouldn't it? I'm not an expert so I have no idea.

Is the alternator something I would be able to check myself or with a mechanically minded friend?

IIRC, they can be a pain to test and rather moody. When my alternator was dying strange things happened. Dash lights dim, warning lights on and off with indicators, bumps would flicker interior lights, etc.... although the car never turned off until the alternator finally ate dust.

New alternator and a jumbo pack of heavy flow pons.

It really shouldn't be your alternator, being the car is still reasonably new. But worth a look. Maybe alternator or battery ground / connection issue?
