It's hardly noticable on the road - you can see it because of the chassis dyno rather than wheel dyno.

my car was tuned years ago on that dyno and didn't have the ups and downs... maybe the tune needs another revision

So my oil feed line has started pissing out oil all over the turbo - it's not losing a LOT of oil, and as long as I top it up I can drive it, but it stinks and has smoke coming out the scoop - it's not a good look.

I looked it up and apparently they are known to fail, so rather than pull it apart, work out what it is, then order a replacement, for $30 I just got a braided oil feed line for the turbo. Should be sent by express post and arrive in the next couple of days - in the meantime I'll drive the astra.

In terms of tune I'm not that worried - it's great to drive, although the cold start is stuffed - I'll be fixing that up in the next few days too.

It's right next to the exhaust housing, so it burns off as it goes, basically it's a constant small fire, so there shouldn't be a large fire.

It's very annoying though, it's obscured by the intercooler support, so I have to remove the intercooler to do it - not terrible, but it adds 30 minutes to a 10 minute job, so I should be done in an hour and half :)

Winner!
Anyone who is attempting to do this - make sure you have a decent set of tools, I used a whole lot of spanners and different bits doing this (more than I expected). It would be easier with a set of crows foot spanners, but I didn't have those, so I made do.

The stupid courier saw trucks in the street and cbf bringing it in, so wrote that there was roadworks, so I didn't get it until today.
Image

First, I took off the intercooler etc, then removed the oil feed bolt, easy peasy, but the AN connection the oil feed line uses is wedged down in there like so:
Image

because I don't have any crows foot spanners, I crushed it a bit with tin snips, bent it until it snapped, and used a deep 17mm socket to remove it, while bracing the bottom one with a spanner like so:
Image

The adapter I put back on was 18mm (wtf). I then put the new line on and put it all back together like so:
Image

Refitted the intercooler etc:
Image
Run it, no leaks, no smoke!

And finally, the culprit:

Where I cut/bent it:

Thanks, although amusingly, not really related to anything I've done I would think, just bad luck!

Now we return you to our regularly scheduled servicing (in another 1900km or so iirc!)

Thanks, I like doing these and the writeup/pictures, but I'm never sure if people like it or find it useful, but I know similar threads have helped me a lot, and I never responded to the majority of those threads, and I think that having a specific photo of something and an explanation at the very least gives you a bit of confidence you're doing the right thing if you weren't 100% sure.

Turbo Blanket install!

Take the intercooler and heat sheild off.

First, Cut the wire in half, tie it onto the buttons on the side that goes to the gearbox, then feed the wires around. Once you have the wires out, put the blanket in place
Image
Then, attach the wires onto the other side.
Image
.. Put it back together

Protip: remember to put the intercooler support bracket back before you refit the intercooler and have to take it off again.

No idea if it makes any difference to anything, will find out tomorrow.

So this morning my wife was sick so i stayed home to look after our 3yo, and someone was selling enkeis from a tbsti for $1k with rubber. "By golly" I thought. "That's a smashing price, you should jump on that post haste!".

So I did.

Looks great, I'm a huge fan of the 06/07 tbsti Enkei wheels.

Not so much of my 08 ones... :(

Really, I much prefer the 2008 ones, they look abit simpler in design but more suited to the car... do you wanna swap?? :D
