The z20s have a smaller combustion chamber (48.something cc I remember reading) compared to 52ish on the 2.5 and 50 on the 2.0 ( ej207). I understand that the radius of the 90 bend ing the ports is tighter in our heads thus more restrictive.
Mick has w20s which are off the spec c. These a the best heads. Google them.
I am typing this from memory so I am happy to be proven incorrect in the interest of shedding light on Subaru heads on this forum.

I think those lumpy bars he found stuffed in the heads might also help …..somehow.

Well, yeah, that is a given. But what sort of shirt lifter would run factory cams in a 'built' motor?
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

Haha you know me too well tony. I was actually underwhelmed with the smallish backfire type sound I was hoping for a Big Bang if it ever went!

Gb I changed oil 6000kms ago. Nulon 10w40 full synthetic

It wasn't the oil that let me down though I don't think but the dilution wouldn't have helped

And indeed Ian although I've since found out I don't think they're the size I was originally advised they were. They might be stock spec c cams (which still ain't small but not as good as the 264/284 I was led to believe they were ) :(

And it's not a "built" motor at all. Stock with some headstuds!

Im guessing the stock head gaskets are the ones you are putting back on??

What's causing the issue with the gaskets??? No stock or just shit postage ??

The problem is no one stocks them as they're one off for this type of motor

257 water gallery pattern but 207 bore

I'm going with the tomei's as they're the only aftermarket headgaskets for these motors

Also finding it hard to find suitable forged pistons for the same reason. Unless I change compression ratio which I don't want to do

Uncharted waters = headaches

Yep for sure dawesy

I've decided to stick with the hyperteutetic pistons factory - I was told these would be forged when I pulled the motor but don't think they are

My reasoning for staying with the stock ones is as follows:

- engine was blueprinted so I don't wanna throw these clearances out of whack
- forged pistons expand more under heat so clearances might be too right at the moment without giving the block a 10 thou bore - this would involve splitting case halves which I'm definitely not doing
- the hyper pistons should go ok as long as no detonation

Yeh does come down to a good tune and you should be fine.

Maybe not a much power, maybe 10-15kw atw less but safe and reliable !!

Manual Spec C on E85 with those pistons saw some decent power on a similar size turbo.
