My motor threw a rod this morning too

The product of a 201,000km engine and 255kw atw I guess

The ethanol oil dilution wouldn't have helped

I'm glad it happened with me and i didn't sell the car a couple of months ago cos I would've felt like shit if this blew up with the new owner

Oh well lucky I have a new motor to go in shortly :)

So the 207 motor you purchased is a long block then not short block?

I had a funny feeling our 208 engines had the same heads as the 207?

Quad avcs, but much more aggressive cams (read my post a couple of pages back on the specs)

Different port design and chamber design altogether.

Much larger ports too

Hmmmm. Port the heads I have or get 207 long block???

My original idea was 207 short block on my heads with a little porting + the other bits n pieces. Water pump, oil pump, sump, belts, gaskets etc.

Completely different casting on the head which allows for massive ports. You could hit stock heads with a die grinder trying to reach the late model port cross sectional area but would hit the water galleries first.

Bear in mind that the heads Mick has, and we are talking about are vastly different from those found on the 'normal' ej207.

The z20 have decent port size (bigger than the w25 late model davcs) heads. The z20s have a smaller combustion chamber (48.something cc I remember reading) compared to 52ish on the 2.5 and 50 on the 2.0 ( ej207). I understand that the radius of the 90 bend ing the ports is tighter in our heads thus more restrictive.
Mick has w20s which are off the spec c. These a the best heads. Google them.
I am typing this from memory so I am happy to be proven incorrect in the interest of shedding light on Subaru heads on this forum.
