I couldn't agree more... At the end of the day you can always get a new car and all the experience you have from the last one it can only be as good if not a lot better as you would of learnt so much from your last experience along with others who have continued on from your mods since.

Thanks buddy. It is good to know project gambit and my part out is pollenating throughout the liberty community ;)

In no way has the project formally ended. In fact its still regenerating so to speak as some of its major components will be reused again.

Unfortunatley I never got to see the car in person but just from the outside pictures you have of the car at the start of the thread I think there is a lot that I can take from how you set it up. I like the way the car sits and how neat it looks.

Even though I don't have the turbo to do those mods there I can use that money on making it ride as well and hopefully look as good..

That's excellent news to hear your insurance has paid out! Hopefully you'll turn your great energy into another awesome project in time. I look forward to it and really hope it's another Subi.

BTW did Shannons cover your car as modified? I always figured mods either weren't covered or insurance became invalid :?
I own a Liberty honest!

i dunno about shannons but i know NRMA cover any modifications as long as the car is still road legal, even if they arent listed

Gambit's Project

Postby Gambit » Mon May 07, 2012 6:10 am

Well I pretty pedantic about declaring every mod that was external and visual with Shannon's, they were in fact awesome. They let me into the yard to strip off wheels and brakes etc. Had no issues at all, just took ages to get sorted because of all the other hail damaged vehicles at the time. If your with Shannon's I'd recommend the selvage option ;)

Gambit, great to hear that you've been able to make the best of the whole situation. Having been in a write off situation myself, the salvage option and full declaration is very important.

Also, I watched an old Mercedes be raised to the ground in the space of minutes (if not seconds) starting as an electrical fault in the drivers foot well. It was FAST, insanely FAST. I'm pretty sure we're all 100% thankful that you and your family weren't impacted by this.

So onto the Phoenix stage now.... back from the ashes time; stronger and better than ever. ;-)

Gambit I called Shannon's today out of curiosity, thought it would be worthwhile getting a quote and having every possible mod listed down given that you had a good experience with them. Even though NRMA says they automatically cover mods as long as they are within the agreed value I don't trust it. I enquired about the salvage option and was told they only offer this option for vehicles that are old, like 20+ years. Maybe you got in with that option before they changed their rules? He said they do give every policy holder the option to purchase their car before it goes to auction/sale if it has been written off though...

As could be expected the premium was much higher than my current premium, however it is mainly due to my age. Might move on to them once I turn 25 :D

I didn't think Shannon's insured under 25s.
Not sure why I think that though.

They do, but usually not if it's a typical hoon car.
I wouldn't bother calling up if you are 21 and want to insure an R33 GTS-T or something.

humm... that sounds funny, anyway right from the policy document:

SALVAGE RIGHTS
Available with: Comprehensive Applies to: All Vehicles
3. If your vehicle is over 35 years old, or this option is shown on your certificate, and we declare your vehicle a total loss, you will keep the unrepaired vehicle at no cost.

http://www.shannons.com.au/library/docu ... ce_PDS.pdf

They may have changed the conditions of the policy schedule for this option to apply to vehicles only 20 years and older, i'd escalate that if you were still keen.

Just to clarify I didn't have the option selected, wish i had but for what i paid for the wreck i'm not too fussed either way.
