Re: Jaydece's Mini Development Project

Postby jaydece » Mon Sep 10, 2012 6:37 pm

Hello Everyone,

Been A Long While....

Reason for my post is I'm just putting it out there for those who don't know already?

I'm up for a PHASE II engine build...yes it's coming out ......wanted to do this much much later.....rather than sooner...but the time has come...

Why?

Well....to summarize it as you know my engine was never perfect to begin with when it was built by "will not mention the name" .........so having said this I have been experiencing the following:

1/ car started not running right ( felt like it was struggling at top end )
2/ drinking coolant and then overflowing when I boosted it hard via the overflow reservoir
I had the radiator checked, burped, drained and cleaned and it was semi blocked with tha end tanks needing replacement as well...
3/ and the icing on the cake was milky froth that has followed recently ( about 1+ month now )

The only good outcome of this is my car doesn't overheat and it still runs with normal driving....

So conclusion?

YES my head has lifted.....The E85 didn't help? but the most important part is my stud bolts were NOT upgraded and was probably refitted with the same ones? or OEM ones put back in.....LONG STORY...

I will definitely find out soon...plus to add to this cometic gaskets are pretty crap.....bit late now knowing this.....

Where To Now?

Well I have been doing my research, asking for advice, speaking to allot of people and going around workshops trying to see who I would go to? Considering all my options and going with my experience and call it gut feeling......In the end I have chosen Springy Motors for my phase II build.....the car was dropped off this afternoon...

I'm on a pretty tight budget so I'm after long term reliability....I will NOT be upgrading cams, valves, springs, etc etc....as this is where heaps of $$$$$$ can be spent.....figure and power to me at moment is secondary....

My Proposed Part(s) - most parts I will be sourcing myself or already have.....the list isn't final but just a guide at this stage until engine is out and investigated...

- Cosworth Gaskets
- ACL Race Bearings - Inspect original 1st
- ARP CA625+ Studs
- CP Pistons ( replace mahle pistons )
- Eagle Rods ( replace probably to manly ) - Inspect original 1st
- Crank
- STI Oil Pump
- External Waste-gate Install
- New Dump Pipe ( from Scott )
- Whiteline Bushes for rear diff, positive shift, support bushes and other white line products
- Complete fitment of Group N Mounts ( partial installed ATM )
- OEM STI Torsen Front Diff ( Thanks Bruce For Awesome Pricing ) - will be installed separately probably via barrie crocker motors...
- ALLOT of other Misc Item(s) - - - too many to mention

Now this is on top of checking my AVCS (cam issue previously), cam bolts, any machining, cleaning, honing, general inspection, hidden things that need replacement and a whole lot of misc things required to get the engine up to a very strong reliable state...

Tips / Help / Advice Along The Way

Many Thanks To.....

1/ Gambit - Anthony
2/ GT Tony ( Senator )
3/ Scott - Scotty Customs
4/ Brainy - Brian
5/ 3rspecb - Gino
6/ GB - Brandon
7/ Bass S - Bruce
8/ Jun Sawa - Jun

anyone else I have forgotten???? I apologize and wish to thank you as well....you guys know who you all are..

So there you go guys? Wish me luck and I'm hoping at 2-3 month build period? cross fingers...but with all builds....these things take time ...

I'll be in touch and take photos of this build as much as I can.....

Justin mate don't know what to say

Very sorry to hear the shit you have gone through man - it really shouldn't be like this.

Not gonna rub salt into the wound by expressing my disgust at some of the things the "unnamed" workshop has done - but that's just not right to say the least.

If I can help with any donor parts or anything to help bring costs down let me know

Wishing you the best luck with it mate

Mick

ehehehe I don't think he will mind GB....he has already exploded many a time about your car  8)

Plus? your car can give my car company.....even maybe have a mutual swap of engines?

But seriously thanks Brandon....yeah worse case would be xmas? I'd rather expect worse case scenario's then expect too much and get disappointed....

Most of the time will be spent on inspecting, machining, order/transit of part(s)....especially on my side of things...

ah....here we go again with the waiting game... :(

UPDATE: -

Well looks like the ball has started to roll ... :) ...On 1st inspection it does look like there is some aftermarket gaskets which I could see? Let's see what they are hey? ....all shall be revealed soon!

Hopefully tomorrow once the engine is out...I get some insight on the head studs and validate other(s) things as well.....I'll pick up the phat dump pipe once it's removed ( currently has a buyer already ) and get scott to make me a custom one for my external gate setup...

I had the pleasure of meeting Phil Lowe on sat @ rexnet dyno day at springy.... :D

We had a good chat and I learnt / and helped re inforce some of my plans and advice gathered from springy, forum members and other work shops.....

Phil may be involved in my build? or have some input on it at some stage....see what happens? ....either way I feel I am in good hands :)

So having said the above? looks like I'm going to be upping my compression ratio to about the 9's area? and will be spending some $$$ on the heads to help flow them up on the intake / exhaust side..

Part(s) wise nothing new has changed? But I have purchased OEM timing kit, seals, tensioner and pulley assy from MAKIN and LUBY in preston for $480.00 ( many thanks GB! )
