FYI update:

Decided on the rebuild path:
Ordering a set of CP forged pistons, Carillo Rods, ACL race bearings, ARP headstuds and case bolts, Oem gasket kit, Gates timing belt, Oem Sti oil pump for my build, aiming for 8.5:1 compression ratio.
Will also get the heads ported and polished, and fit Kelford 264 inlet and exhaust cams, with supertech dual valve springs, seats and titanium retainers.

Will post pictures as i progress on the build, will take my time as its going to hit the wallet pretty hard, but as long as i can get the maximum out of the turbo I will be happy. :D

Thanks blacktop.

But on a sad note, I had the turbo fail on the weekend  Looks like i will now have to rush the engine build, as i might as well get it all sorted out in one hit. I initially thought i had blown the engine, but realised it was the turbo when i could still drive it off boost, but anything with positive manifold pressure i'd get a great big rattle from the turbo....

Wont know until we strip it off.

This is a sad sight... :-(

With every dark cloud comes a silver lining, and here are some juicy pics of parts that have arrived for the rebuild:
Image
Nice and shiny CP pistons
Image
rods enough for 500hp, don't think i will need more than that :)
Image
got my aeromotive FPR, apparently much more accurate and reliable than a lot of the stuff coming out of china thats for sure.

the Garrett GT3076r turbo that bolts into the stock position, will be converting to EWG setup and welding up the wastegate port on this. :D

Hey Gambit,

Those are some nice internal parts damn. Your lib is gonna fly haha. Very interesting seeing what you can put into a turbo motor. All the best and good luck with the build, its very exciting!

the Garrett GT3076r turbo that bolts into the stock position

Gambit a bit of a heads up (help if you may) .......that turbo will not bolt into a liberty straight out of the box

A: need a new up pipe

B: need a 3" turbo intake pipe

C: a fair bit of grinding on your bell housing

D: modify your dump pipe

and a few other small bits and pieces

Gambit you could have saved yourself a few hundred bucks on the TGV deletes and done the same job to your own for under $100

Thanks Michael really appreciate your feedback! :)

Yep i need a new uppipe anyway as i will be mounting a v-flange 44mm Tial external wastegate that will vent back to dump pipe, yep totally right with the intake pipe, factory is 2 1/4 inch i think and thats a 3inch inlet so it will be a custom made intake. Yep read up on legacyGT that a lot of the guys that bolted on the Dom3's had to grind down bellhousing and had to do the air pump delete mod to make these turbos fit, so aware of that. Also the MRT dump pipe has the cat in the dump pipe, and that cat has been destroyed by the implosion of the the rear turbine wheel, so will be getting a new dump pipe fabricated and moving the cat to the mid pipe section. I will also need to redo the front mount intercooler pipe for the necessary bends to get to the compressor outlet of the gt30. So your totally right not bolt on in that sense. :D oh yeah TGV's yeah i know, maybe i can sell them off so that i am not too out of pocket.

*did not end up blowing the turbo and the MRT dump pipe was in excellent and undamaged condition when inspected. Thank goodness, no implosion of the rear turbine wheel, in fact the turbo is for sale here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11396

and on closer inspection of the rear turbine wheel, its in perfect unblemished condition:

No need to worry about the air pump delete mod as the us has a different set up

as for the intercooler pipe just rotate the front cover so the outlet is facing straigh up or a bit to the drivers side and you should be close

Ah that's great news I don't have to worry about air pumps, one less thing to think about. Do you think it's worth the effort of converting to external wastegate setup over current iwg? Or that I will get any more power out of it by going ewg?

in a way you will make more power by having better, smoother boost control using a ext gate (must use aftermarket elctronic boost control) "NOT A BLEED TYPE T-PIECE"

in saying the above if your not planning on using 18+psi plus stick with the flapper' but looking at the parts going into your build i'd punch at least 28psi

if you do go ext gate just change the rear housing at cost of about $400 and dont bother welding up the gate as you get a better flowing housing by using a proper ext gated housing

Phat Thanks for that, after chewing the fat over it last night will replace rear housing with a tial v-band turbine housing 0.86 a/r version. :)
