But then I won't know how shit it is Dave.

The cut/fit option would no doubt be a lot cheaper, might just do that anyway. In the mean time, I might open up the stock item just to see what's inside there.

I can still feel a couple of pressure chambers in the overall system, even with the mufflers done. It's smoother, but just not smooth enough. There's still that slight slow down when you hit the throttle hard, typically the result of a pressure chamber filling/pressurising for the first time. Once it's pressured up though, then it flows enough air to keep thing on the go.

you should also feel how heavy that flat oem resonator is!!!! Two cats in the dump pipe plus that one in the centre means you have some serious restrictions and back pressure issues not to mention alot of extra weight.

Sounds more like turbo spool up than pressure chamber filling/pressurising

Nah, this is my 3rd turbo subaru, it's not steady, linear, smooth spool. It has a surging nature to it more along the lines of pressure chambers.

I'm keen to see if this is any better on the dyno or if its all held back by the rest of the system.
I'm limited to what I can do on the GT as its the Wifes daily driver and shes not keen on me rexing it up like the other ones but your idea if its free flowing and yet resonably quiet.. well I might get away with it. The car really needs it its sounds so plain in stock form. Certainly those stock mufflers look awful inside....... Maybe someone could gut the tuned by STI ones and see the difference LOL (not)
I will be doing a full remap shortly but its kind of pointless with the top end being cut short.

your mp3 links dead btw

Massive internet outages on Netspace today. All should be accesible again.

And ye, the mod is subtle enough, but you can certianly feel the benefits of the extra flow. Much faster accelerations in gear between things like 80-110km/h and even 60-100km/h in 5th :|

Getting other parts first, then doing the tune. The tune will come after those parts are collected. So probably a good 6-12mths away for me yet. About to outlay a fair whack on some speakers for the Lib, so one thing at a time. Car is quick(ish) at the moment, but the stereo is benefitted by all in the car on a minute by minute basis, hence I get better value from it, so it gets the spend first. :-)

Bugger - was hoping we could go in together and bargain a bit for two cars!

Ah, OK - I'm no audiophile, but I thought that the GT-B Mac was actually a pretty good performer. Maybe I'm just deaf!

I can tell that the stock system is seriously restrictive and the stock tune shows the timing is significantly retarded and rich.

Removing some back pressure at the muffs helps a little bit but were not talking about a lot. The stock sti quads are not worth messing with and they twice the size of my hitech quads.

I really only mentioned the STI mufflers as a joke You'd be mad to gut them given their price 2nd hand from what i see. I've had Hitech on all my other cars and am also currently running one of those Varex mufflers as a test. I'll be comparing the two shortly back to back at 300 Kw or so. Sounds wise its not in the same league

I think Hitech seems to be the best all round but I'm still keen to see Mr Pitts el-budgo' mod put to the test with say a decent mid section - what where they thinking
At another dyno day last year switching from an extremely loud Jasma Cannon thing (my god embarassing to drive) to the Hitech 3" single the power loss was less than 5Kws in 300 that aint bad and even then that could be due to other things

I certainly think there's room here for a group buy/negotiation process, that's for sure! Timeframes may work out well if there's a few people involved. :-)

Heheh, honestly, the stereo's massively improved by deadening all doors and the parcel shelf. Comes a HUGE way forward JUST doing that. But it's back breaking and finger shredding exercise. :(

Exactly why I added it with your recent spinal discussions and seat activities. Might be well worth getting it priced up. SO worth while to bring the stereo up to quite a good standard for a factory item.
