Otherwise I'd be rechecking it all. I wouldn't think it needs a different ecu. It should be able to detect that it's using more air and compensate the fuel accordingly. Maybe try fitting an aftermarket trans cooler also. The AT OIL TEMP light means the ATF fluid is getting too hot and burning.

I Figured that the AT OIL TEMP was because the radiator came out and was drained, as the oil was pumped from the gearbox to the rad the air in the rad equalised with the air now in the gearbox which caused it to heat up and lose gears, after checking the book for how much I needed and added a few more litres in that problem cleared up, I am interested in a tranny cooler just for the longer trips or towing but I don't think it's a necessity,

it's possible the timing is off but it wouldn't cause the cluster to go mad would it? it also seemed to run ok once the ecu got used to the engine, before it all died?

Did alot more reading about people who had done these swaps, turns out the knock sensor from the 2.2 wont work on the 2.5 it needs the 2.5 knock sensor with the loom modified to fit instead of swapping them also that it can only be torque'd to 15nm otherwise it reads wrong, also that the 2.2 throttle body has to be used with the 2.5 manifold weather the TPS plugs fit or not and also that the 2.2L IACV should be used aswel, so there's a few 2.5L bits that i will swap for my 2.2 Bits and that 2.2L knock sensor will be swapped for the 2.5L one,

i can try these things and see what happens when my mate comes back in a couple of weeks because my old bits are locked in his garage :(

i guess for now i can get on with other odd jobs, door skins, seat belts, mirror, driving lights, cb radio, cup holders, immobiliser, seat covers, spare tire, clean...

Sounds like you have a plan to address he issues.
That is the most important when faced with 'challenges'.

good luck!

Probably yeah, I haven't yet located a good value subaru wreckers in perth, one with nice people decent parts and good prices, but i haven't really looked yet either, so far i've been getting parts off gen2's that are being wrecked on ebay, i also found a few on gumtree locally that i might check out when i get some cash, had to spend $200 on the missus's daihatsu the coppers reckon the bonnet's gonna hurt a pedestrian when we hit them (i figured they're screwed either way) because we hit a roo and the bumper is pushed in a tad makes the bonnet look like it's up when it's not, so new bonnet, top radiator support and bumper reo was purched to sort that before the pit's date for her :s gotta have one registered car between us haha, i should be paid soon last quotes i got was something like $55 for the mirror 2nd hand and probably around $70ish for a new seatbelt including retractor bit, could get lucky and find it cheaper,

in the meantime looks like i'm taking apart the daihatsu front end because the panel beaters quoted $1000 and a months wait, pfft screw that i'll do it myself for under $300 in a few days 8)

Installed the door trims again also installed the 2-way radio and repaired the cup holders so they don't droop when cups are in them, my temperature control and vent surround is all cracked and the hazard switch falls in so a new one of those and radio surround is on the cards now as well as that mirror and seat belt, tomorrow i'm gonna install the lower bumper lights on a relay with a switched earth and a trigger from the parkers (they're only gonna have LED's in them)

Meanwhile Zoe sanded her bonnet and is gonna prime and paint it tomorrow

Been driving the lib around and a few hours ago it dropped a piston and then seized a couple of blocks from home, great just my luck,

worried because I can't afford another engine and I haven't paid my mate back who lent me the cash for this one yet,

thinking about maybe saving up for another wagon because the cost of a 3rd motor, plus everything else that's missing (tons of interior bits head light seat belt mirror whatever just lots of stuff) is worth the cost of another wagon, thing is I can't drive the 1200k's to where I work without a car, boss gives me fuel money but can't send a ride down haha,

such a screw up really, after all that effort *sigh*

gonna keep this lib for spares and get another gen2 wagon, I was already getting used to that 2.5L as well bit disappointed I'll be going back to the 2.2,

with the girlfriends Daihatsu now needing a "full inspection" the oil leaks and worn out CV's won't cut it, so that's at least another $400 or so including pit fees, gonna be without wheels for a while :/

i bought it private sale 2nd hand, so no warranty i guess, it was sort of noisy but i assumed just valve train needing some oil it's slowly gotten worse then stayed the same until last night was just so much louder all of a sudden then i knew it wasn't something simple it was something bad stopped a couple of blocks from home it's still round the corner had to walk rest of the way
