Re: VIP GT-BBB hvac fix and nav hack done

Postby bigBADbenny » Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:40 am

HVAC fix and nav hack 5 hour marathon last night: I finally fixed my murmuring buzzing hvac :)
And did the nav DVD hb lockout hack...
Hvac:
There's 2 vent motors on the passenger side...
The top motor is controlled by the mode switch, it's cam controls 2 levers and maybe 3 vents.
The cam will run off the rails causing the issue: the buzzing and less than perfect mode operation.
I removed the motor, cleaned it, rejigged the internal contacts a little, and reassembled it all.
Tip: when removing the motor assy, unscrew the forward most screw first as it's mount is thin plastic and it will break, mine might need reinforcing there sooner rather than later.
This job is difficult, I removed the DVD and I recommend removing all the pass side lower trim for ease of access.
I was working upright, mostly blind, and I'm hoping with all the trim removed I can work on my back next time.
You'll need every length of screw drivers, and a mini ratchet screw driver type socket set with extension is a good thing too.
And a ton of patience!
Write up sometime soon.

As for the DVD nav hack, as per instructions (finally comprehended), I removed a pin from an old heatsink fan and inserted it into the appropriate hole of the connector that can be seen dangling in the pic.
How to DVD nav hack.
DVD nav hack on LGT showing which pin on the DVD plug. Click on the pics in there for hi res!
Nav how to with everything inc nav diagnostic mode instructions
That wire just gets grounded to the DVD chassis. Easy! Thanks!!!

So if you are doing the handbrake lockout hack at the nav screen end, the grey wire is cut and grounded body to nav unit.
If you are lifting the center console to reveal the handbrake then you can ground the grey wire at the other end, cut the wire, ground it body to nav.

IIRC the HB nav hack allows switching the nav aux video input on the move, so eg I can switch between my SGS i9000 Torque guages and the nav.
IIRC the DVD nav hack allows input on the move, eg destination, vehicle info etc.

As usual do this at your own risk!
Why all the links? It took me months to work all this out as the info is somewhat scattered and incomplete... probably for a good reason ;)

Its getting there...

TBH I'm not 100% with the composition, the relation of the bridge to the subject is a little out of balance and the fence shouldn't be visible either.

I can say its a sensational sunset location, just better planning and some more time shooting variations would be required to get the absolute best from it.

Time for a little update!
My AVO 400L has been fully refurbished by Kyp at ATP Moorabbin for a great price.
It's got a brand new cast compressor wheel, which is apparently lighter than billet, for better spool (according to Adam at Tuspeed).

All of my research suggests this turbo will be perfect for my stock 2.5T with EL headers, inlet silicone, DW65c and a Perrin TMIC.
With stock injectors I might get a little over 190Kw atw at a lazy 15psi with most daily driving likely to happen on wastegate pressure at 12psi.
...sometime in the next 6 months.

Why? Well my Lib is at 195K right now still on the original clutch and VF46.
The timing belt service seems to be the perfect opportunity to do a compression and leakdown test, to see if all is as good as it currently feels.
So I though why not go next level with a smallish BB turbo on EL headers?
Then it will be engine out time for a new clutch, belts, TFLSD, the rest of the upgrades (and hopefully not much else, eg long rod destroker build).

Pics soon. 8)

Twin scroll is not EL... as it can be both unequal or equal secondaries or still have unequal primaries.

Let me clarify, I gots 4-2-1 el, the boss of all stock location headers IMHO :P
Cos they're smoother the rest of the zorst can be louder...
One day I might even fit them
