+1 for Soundmaster. But yea don't bother calling. The online shop is good though, quick delivery and some of the better prices you can find. Their wiring kits are good too :) Bought a lot in the past from them for my last car.

Not much of an update but I'm bored.

I have the DAB antenna and bluetooth mic in the car ready for the HU install.
I'm hoping the facia kit will arrive Thursday/Friday. I also bought the lead for my iPhone to plug into it so it's all ready.

Here are some dodgy pics of what I've done so far, I thought it wasn't half bad for my first time to do with anything audio. Not sure if it works yet though

And the bluetooth mic:
Image
The instructions listed to either put it on the sun visor or on the steering column. I didn't like either of those ideas so I ran it up the pillar and placed it off the windscreen. It's not any further away than it would be on the visor so it should be good. It's a much cleaner install too IMO

And a random happy pic same as my avatar... I'm that bored.

According to the RMS handsfree technology is also against the law for P1 drivers in NSW.. I thought I read somewhere about P2 drivers too but I might be mistaken.

Southerland Shire is a whole 'bother ball park. thats where all the defect stations are. I've never seen one let alone pulled up in one. I've never been pulled over for defects.

so the RTA (or whatever its called now) give you handsfree phone holder for free (which you have to use your hands to operate) but won't allow bluetooth technology which requires no hands to activate for P1 driver? whats next? making talking illegal in cars?
feels like communism to me

In my opinion hands free should be illegal for everyone.

It's not holding the phone that is distracting it's carrying on a conversation with another person on the other end of the phone.

Pretty hard to police it though anyway.

I knew that would be the next question, and it's a valid point.
Talking to people in your car can be just as distracting.

It really depends somewhat on the driver and the conversation. Depending on the importance of the conversation you might be paying more or less attention to it.
Also, if the content of the conversation is inane chatter that you are just nodding and yessing to and not really listening to, you aren't going to be as distracted as if you are really thinking about the conversation.

Some drivers are very prone to distraction and the moment they start driving they are looking for something else to do at the same time (I know a number of people like this) and other drivers are much more focused on the task at hand (the driving).
These kinds of differences also likely impact the priorities someone has for their attention.
I pay a lot of attention to driving when I'm driving, sometimes to the point of completely ignoring passengers in my car depending on the situation.

Notice that when you are talking to someone when you are driving and something unexpected happens or the conditions mean you have to focus harder than usual on driving, you pretty much tune out of the conversation as you pay more attention to driving (at least I do).
You might also notice yourself not fully paying attention to the road when you are having an in depth conversation.
This is because you can't really give your full attention to multiple things at once.

You can multitask but you are not doing both tasks to your full potential and your brain still has to switch between the two things.
I can also watch tv while I'm doing work on my laptop, with a sneaky club liberty tab open, while my girlfriend is talking to me and I'm eating something, but you can bet while I'm seemingly doing all those things I didn't really hear fully all of what was said, I don't remember all the details of what was on tv and I get FA work done.

I think the most dangerous thing on our roads is not something like speeding, but not paying attention or properly focusing on driving.
If you are properly focusing you have a much better chance of avoiding a crash if something unexpected happens.

I'm not saying I'm always completely focused on driving or that talking on a phone is much different to talking to someone in the car (there are some differences, like answering and hanging up the phone and talking to someone that isn't in the same space as you), but any distraction, while my car is moving 6 car lengths a second in traffic at night while it's raining (or in any other less extreme scenario), should be avoided.
Plus I don't think people need to be talking while they are driving.
I would guess most people are just talking about rubbish that can wait anyway.

I'm not just saying that either, I will not answer my phone while I'm driving and it is generally on silent.

The less distractions the better.

Just my opinion.

same haha

some good points.
but the point is, its inevitable and a bit over the top to stop people from using bluetooth handsfree. where does it stop?
there are WAY worse things people are doing in the car than lending 1/10 of their attention to chit chat. if you can't manage that then i don't think those people should be operating a motor vehicle. fat chance of that though.
moral of the story... people are shit.

All these rules and restrictions yet Mr Bogan in his VS Commodore can still cruise down the road paying all attention to the quarter pounder in his right hand, the chips in his left hand, the large coke which just HAS to be drunk while driving and yelling at his missus & 5 kids because he can't hear his beloved Eels on the radio

I know it's a pipe dream, and that you can't ever stop it, and I also hate the idea of telling people they can't do something (I don't want people telling me what not to do either).
I think people should be able to do whatever they want so long as it isn't hurting someone else.
But some people need all the help they can get. Unfortunately a lot of those same people are the ones who will do it anyway.

I've also seen plenty of crazy things, like people doing their hair or nails or even their mascara and eyeliner while driving (I shudder to think what happens when they get something in their eye).

Plus some people don't even need to be doing something stupid, they just suck at driving or paying attention all together.

So there is no winning, mobile phone culture just shits me so I rant

Yep, there is plenty of that. Ban it all

Doesn't have to be Mr & Mrs Bogan either it could be Mr & Mrs Snooty in their Merc doing the same thing.

Driving around really late at night always makes me nervous because I'm convinced everyone else on the road is probably drunk. But then again that could be any time of the day.
