Very nice mate, looks like a quality piece of gear too.

One question, why the heat proof paint when your wrapping it, does that not defeat the purpose?

Do you have to grind off that bar between the flanges?

Thanks guys. the sound is quite unique i am liking the nice refined rumble now and it settled down a bit more, i think because of carbon buildup in the headers.
I just followed a youtube install video on how to wrap headers haha and the guy used VHT heat proof. From someone who knows nothing about mechanical physics etc i think it doubles up on retaining the heat within the header, lets exhaust gases flow faster through the headers into the turbo helping response, i am sure someone else here can explain it much petter :D
That bar between the headers just unbolts off, i think they use to to make sure that the distance between the the two flanges stays the same after manufacture and storage.

Nice install on the headers.

I have exactly the same colour car and it's even a manual wagon as well.

is the exhaust manifold stainless? if it is i think the bar is there to stop it from flexing/stetching under heat and resulting in cracking?

Hey Blacktop yeah the manifold is stainless, although unfortunately that bar between the two exhaust header flanges fouls against the rear of the sump, its meant to be removed when installed.

Latest Update:

Had a bit of time to kill the other day and decided to polish the rear cans, they were disgusting before, but afterwards they came out quite nicely, after a bit of elbow grease.

Also did the HID mod on the fogs and upgraded the front headlights to 6k bulbs. Yet to change over the park lights, its on the to do list.

Image

You may notice in the above pic that there is light spilling out of the honeycomb grill next to the fog light. Basically i spent one evening drilling out the honeycombs for a direct air feed to a 76mm ID air intake hose that connects to where the airbox resonator use to attach. Will eventually get pics of it when i get back into the airbox.

Here are some pics of the Cold Air Intake that i installed the other week to the bottom of the airbox. As you can see its a pretty rough hack job of the front fog light area, but function over form won out in the end. :?
You can barely make out the front of the CAI below:

Brought this Cusco Oil Catch can online second hand for $75 delivered ! bargain ! :D
Image

A very brief install guide below:
I took out the existing lines that run from the crankcase ventilation points on both sides of the heads to the turbo intake. As you can see its secured by 2x 10mm bolts on either side, and the hoses just pop/slide off with a little force
Image

Next i cut off the hose ends and used a reducer so that it would make my job a lot easier to reinstall hose ends back onto the crank can vent points. Essentially i T pieced the two crank case ends to the catch can and then returned the one line from from catch can to the intake
Image

I ended up mounting the can over the top of the pitch stopper, sorry TMIC guys, not an ideal location...

Here it is with the engine cover back on.. some nice bling there :)

And finally all installed!

Thanks Devour, its still ongoing, got some more big plans for it, but because its a daily driver, attempting to do them at home or with very little distraction to daily duties.

Hey Guys, need some internet advice wave.gif

Essentially i can follow one of two paths with my projects development because of fund limitations and its timing.

Option 1 is to Install GTX3076R (yes scrap the TD06SL2 idea, going GT30 ow yeah ! :) ), ID 1000 injectors, Grimmspeed EBC and tune for E85 on an EJ255 Liberty, its due for 100k service and timing belt change at the same time. Currently it has Walbro, Ecutek and FMIC and TBE, and thus enjoy the new found power,, however because the bottomend is stock i will probably only be able to run 20psi~ of boost, and hope the engine lasts! until i build a forged engine in late 2011, which i have a long EJ255 already.

Option 2 is to hold off on install of GT3076R, etc etc as above. and just rebuild the EJ255 long engine that i have brought that has a spun bearing, and then in late 2011 go ahead and install said bolt-ons for the final result.

What would you do???! :?:

go with the real turbo gt3076r, when tuned safely, that turbo can result in decent power gains even with an unopened engine......i have seen many examples of this simlar set up.....but i stress it must be tuned correctly.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty
