I prefer the look of the GT bar. Dunno, I guess it seems a little more like a performance application than the 3RB bar. Plus I reckon I could relocate the fog lights and sort myself a CAI. I really do not like that bar on mine.

If I'm not mistaken, the GT & NA bar are the same in the Aussie delivered pre-face lifted models.

Fair enough if you don't like the design of yours, but your's is already different & to me shows off the fact you've got a 3.0L... Seriously, find a pic of one with an STI front lip, I'm sure you'll change you mind

OK, so a recap on the car since this thread was last updated. It has had a few minor cosmetic/functional mods (LED parkers, brake globes, dome and map lights, HID low beams and engine bay covers) -nothing to write home about. Oh yeah, the Phat quads too

A major one that I forgot to talk about at the time I got it was a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. I had it installed something like 18 months ago at Jax Merrylands. It's a wireless in-tyre sensor rather than valve cap job. Gives pressure and temperature of each of the tyres (though they didn't want to sell me a 5th sensor for the spare :@ ) in both metric and imperial units and has made life a little simpler, not to mention the peace of mind knowing that we'll be averted if one of the tyres starts to deflate. You can set low and high pressure alarms as well as a high temperature alarm to warn you of tyre conditions outside a range you think is acceptable.

Biggest downside is the 30 odd gram mass of the sensor - this has to be balanced out with additional weights on the wheel. The sensors can be a little coarse in their update resolution however too (sometimes one will take ages to update as pressure hasn't changed more than a psi or two).

It is interesting watching the pressure change with temperature though. "Cold" pressures should be set at around 21°C, but I have found your tyres aren't that temp very often. Sitting outside on a cold night (as mine does) will have the temps down around ambient, whatever that happens to be (I saw -1 one cold winter's morning in Goulburn). Sun on one side of the car in the morning will have two tyres warm but the other two cold (10-15 degree differences between the east and west sides on cold mornings was common).

They will also heat up past 21° a lot quicker than you might think but won't get as hot as you might expect - the only time I've seen really hot temperatures was really hot days on dark bitumen that had been baking in the sun all day. Otherwise, between 30 and 40 degrees is about the norm for warm days, even when working the tyres hard. Was normal to see around 30 degrees in winter too.

Anyway, a couple of pics. None of the sensor itself though sorry - I forgot to take one the other day when I was getting new tyres fitted.

I had mine mounted high up on the windscreen near the rear vision mirror. The only problem with that was that the auto sparky wasn't keen on running power up the A pillar with the airbags in there so they took power from the sunroof (which is only powered when the ignition is ON). Slack prick cross threaded one of the screws that hold the sunroof/maplight console up too.



I should also make mention of the most noticeable mod (which people saw at Newcastle and on the drive last weekend). I have taken the plunge and ditched the stupidly expensive 215/45R18 size tyres and gone with a size that has a higher sidewall, is much more common and is cheaper.


Almost went with 235/45R17 as that is even cheaper but the lower sidewall than the 225/50's (which was the main reason I went through this process in the first place) and concerns with scrubbing scratched that idea. These babies were manufactured in the 36th week of this year too so a lot newer than the old 050a's and PP2's that came off it. Ride has improved from ready-to-kill-someone-harsh to only slightly annoying harsh. Feel and response have not been compromised either. The PS3's have so far exceeded expectations - great grip right from the start, top grip in the wet and the ability to cut through standing water a lot better than anything else I've had on this car.

Wheels are B.I.M Creative Downhill Special (DHS) AE034. Cast wheels made by Bridgestone, 17x7.5 with a +48mm offset. Nothing special brandwise but are the right size, have a design I like and didn't cost me the earth.
