OK... A couple of small updates!

Got an email from Troy saying that the everything has now been sent, and I should see things arriving on Friday! Hopefully he's close to the mark as the car has been booked in at Allstar for the end of the month!

Also, got it booked in at Wilko's for a coilover adjustment and fitting small spacers on the rear + an alignment! Can't wait!

As always, being the first to try something never works perfectly straight up!...

Sent the cooler and turbo in to be fitted and...

Issues fitting the aftermarket top mount means we've stuck with the stock cooler for now!... which means I haven't quite reached my goal output yet, but we'll get there!

More info when I pick up the car this afternoon! :)

In the mean time... Need to find a TMIC that fits! ;)

Picked up the car... Basically just fitted the TD06 with the existing mods and left it at that... The Walbro pump doesn't suit the new MY08+ WRX or MY07+ Liberty, so that didn't go in, and neither did the top mount as I already mentioned.

The car was given a very conservative tune due to the obvious heat and fuel supply limitations on top of the already limiting Liberty EJ255t, but still managed 276.9hp and 397Nm on 17psi...
It takes a few rpm to come on, but when it does, I can't wipe the smile of my face!! :D

A fuel pump to suit and a more efficient TMIC that fits and the car should crack the magical 300hp, but that will be left for 2011...

For the meantime, I am quite happy with driving it as is... :p

Congrats Jimmy! The important thing is that you're happy and smiling every time you stomp the pedal! Numbers are nice, but forget them! Results are better!

Btw what top mount did you try to fit? What RPM does the turbo kick in at? 276.9 hp at all 4's? Have you considered going with a SARD fuel pump (which most of us Sydney siders are using) instead of Walbro? SARD is quieter as you can hear the Walbro humming when it's relatively quiet.

It sounds like it only took a day to fit, as the TD06 was a direct fit. Something I'll have to consider when I move on from the VF52.

Cheers Jim! As you said, it makes me smile, so I'm happy for the mean time... but I'm certainly by no means done yet!

- The top mount was a new china one that Troy brought in and offered me a great deal on... unfortunately it doesn't suit, and seems it was also damaged on the way over to Perth, so it's not going to work for me!
- Kicks in around 4000rpm depending on the gear, and comes on HARD! :D Will try and upload the dyno sheet when I get a chance!(Just got home with the wife and brand new baby daughter today though, so it's been a busy week)
- 276.9hp at all 4 hubs... up from 230hp on the stock turbo, but as I mentioned, its running only 16?psi and a very conservative tune.
- I spoke with Michael about the Sard pump and it seems it is the only one available to suit the new layout, but the Walbro being less than a third of the cost, I was hoping the guys would be able to find a way to get it in there! I think that will have to be the way to go though once I sort out a new TMIC as well. For the noise factor, I had a Walbro in my last WRX and it was inaudible from inside the car?

Yeah, the only reason the car was in overnight was because the turbo didn't get here before my original booking, so the guys helped me out by squeezing it in before they went on break for December/New Years. It's a pretty straight forward job though, so not much hassle at all.

Anyway, back to researching TMIC's as I will probably be wanting to step it up early next year! :P

- Ahh, so it appears you were the test mule for a new top mount from China. Well, someone's gotta do it right? Great to see you step forward and test fit it for the other Liberty owners. At least now we know it doesn't fit and know not to get one until fitment issues are sorted.
- 4,000 RPM? Yikes! That's pretty high for street driving. But at least it kicks in hard. :D Then again, you have a manual and can manipulate RPM a lot better so high RPM is no biggie. With the auto, I'm at the mercy of the transmission ECU. Which is why I told Pulse to have the VF52 kick in as early as possible, even if it means losing top end. Luckily Paul made it work and the turbo kicks in at 2,700 - 2,800 RPM. And at 18 psi, it's fun when exiting roundabouts and corners. If you want the car feeling a bit more 'twitchy', you should look into getting a throttle controller. More fun! :D
- Yeah, don't ratch up the PSI until you've gotten all the components in place. You don't want something failing because it couldn't keep up. I look forward to when your beast has all the armor on and you're going full bore.
- Bah! Stop experimenting with Brand X's and get something well known like Perrin or HyperFlow.

Hey Jimmy congrats on the new arrival! Busy times ahead with a little one. Also good to hear that you have got the car back with the td06 too bad no tmic or pump. The walbro only fits with custom grinding of the internals of the surge tank btw.

Congrats Jimmy on the bub and the lib, shame about the top mount..did sean say your afr's were leaning out or is the fuel pump just insurance?

what about the new process west top mount? look awesome and should go well with your td06?

may still have a few fitment issues on the Lib but if you don't mind being the test mule, it might get you those numbers you're after

Dyno sheet with comparison to stock turbo tune...

Image

Definitely laggier than before, but once it's on song... soo much fun! :D

I'm assuming it was leaning out meaning he was taking timing out of it further up in the rev range Laurie, but I didn't have time to really sit down and go over it with them at the time(was on the way back to the hospital to meet visitors)...

Contemplated the ProcessWest as they make quality gear, the only worry I have is spending all that $$s to buy another cooler that doesn't fit with the new turbo... Plus who knows what to do in terms of a splitter to suit?

Not too shabby at all jimmy, looks the goods. Must be a lot of fun when it comes on boost! Perhaps go hyperflow, its tried and tested, and you know it will work.

wow! got lag monster!
Nice final figure, but surely that must be a little painful to drive around town. Has your tuner investigated altering the AVCS to try bring on boost on earlier by increasing the VE lower in the rev range?

OK... So I bought a Hyperflow TMIC and spent 90 mins last night working out exactly why the other TMIC didn't fit, and indeed why very few aftermarket TMIC's will fit with the GTPumps/Zage bolt on turbo... basically the compressor side outlet flange is on more of an angle than the stock one! Which means it fouls against the core of the larger aftermarket cooler's!

Filing the edge off the turbo outlet flange and possibly a little off the cooler end tank may squeeze it on there, but I am all for not damaging things and finding a proper replacement, so the Hyperflow is now sold to Andrew.

I am now looking to buy this ProcessWest kit which from my mucking around last night, I am much more confident will fit the Liberty setup, and will also fit the turbo due to the different intercooler entry layout! Once some $$s come through from Andrew and Troy who kindly offered to take the other TMIC back, I will have the PW kit on the way, and hopefully with only minor adjustments to suit, I'll eventually have a larger top mount!

In the mean time, I did get my SARD in-tank fuel pump in the mail today... So will work on fitting that into the swimming pool under the rear seat soon! :D

This is a realy bad way of doing things and yes i know its alot cheaper but what does it cost when things go wrong

look at the walbro pump side by side with the factory pump and you will notice a few difference things.the most important thing to notice is the walbro's lack of the locking clips on the plug side of the pump. Now tell me how the pump is ment to lock into it housing via two clips when the walbro does not have them ,so whats holding the pump in there safely. when doing an grade of a fuel pump it so you get more fuel and add safely for the engine

you also have to trim back the locating guides inside the housing as the pump might be the same length as the stock pump but the motor body is about 8mm longer

in all the 04+ liberty's and newer WRX/STI's the Sard pump is the only way to go as they all use this new style of clip in pump

Jimmy you could have saved yourself all those problems if only you took the advice i gove you when you posted about whick cooler to buy (or somthink like that) not you back to what you should have fitted in the first place.. I only suggested this cooler because i knew it would fit into a liberty without much trouble

anyway the best way to learn is the hardest way
