For pads in the 2 piston sliding calipers you have, the Dixcels are often recommended in here. Type M will probably work best for your stock rotors. I have Hawk Performance Ceramic and I can only fault one aspect of them, despite pushing the buggers very hard for a LOT longer than any would on the track. That aspect is a slightly reduced bite when completely cold. One application from 50-30km/h is enough to get enough heat in them that bite is not an issue. I've said it already today elsewhere - I haven't managed to get them to fade, feel and bite are great once warm. In addition, mine have done 60000km and still have a lot more than half their thickness remaining. They do produce a bit of dust but probably less than the stockers - my wheels rarely get cleaned. I have heard similar feedback on the Dixcels, aside from the life expectancy (I haven't really heard any on them). There are other brands that I don't have experience with (eg. Bendix, Ferodo)Gambit wrote:thanks Smythie, yeah Yokohama AD08's in 235/40/18's will be the tyre of choice, and a set of R spec RE55s for track duty is the plan.
No have not upgraded my pads yet, what pads do you recommend?
For the stock brake setup lets say:
pads f & r $400~
braided lines fronts 200~
cusco brake stopper $100~
Total $900
Brembos calipers $800~
rotors $350
pads f & r $400
braided lines front $200
plus i need spacers to clear my wheels $150~
Total $1900
AP Racing
$3k~ for the kit
Thats about right....?
Now that you have your beast on the road, I think getting pads done (do that first and worry about the rest later) should be done ASAP. Like contact Micheal (or whoever you get your performance parts from) this afternoon or tonight and organise it. I don't know that braided lines are necessary really but if you get to the point that you can feel hose flex in your brakes, do it, although I would recommend doing front and rear at the same time as you'll just be feeling the rear hoses flexing. I can't tell you anything about the stopper that you haven't already read in here.
On the Brembo side, I think your prices for calipers and rotors might be a little low (if buying new I think you can at least double the rotors cost unless you're doing front only)
