You can do it with any old laptop with usb and xp.
You can even run a usb cable out the door into the car...
The only person that needs convincing... is you. BUT:
I should have realized earlier but I get the feeling its possibly not really your thing - with utmost respect.
Not everyone likes going completely nerdgasm over their car.

Its just that you seem to like the whole mods & power side of things...
Without any apparent understanding of the technical side of it all.
Coupled with a reasonably delicate engine health scenario.
It just seems like a dangerous combination.
For your wallet and sanity.

Daniel,

I had a look at these links and was very interested to see the iPhone wifi linked OT-2 bundled with the LC-1 wideband oxygen sensor and lambda cable.

This will allow you to monitor AFRs + all the OBD II diagnostic info to your iPhone.

Here it is on an Australian site for $369-.

What do we think about this?

I love the mods and I LOVE power.

But a firm believer in that if you don't understand something fully.... Don't fuck with it. Specially when it can cost you thousands.

I would prefer to have something like the gauges and the fail safes that they have to help keep it under check.

But that's it, I'm not into tuning it.!!
Not a Subaru...... Something MUCH better

NOPE..... That's shit too. Bus anyone??

Perhaps do nothing new this time around. Trust your engine builder and tuner and hope for the best.

Just a suggestion. And possibly the one you're most comfortable with.

That's a contradictory statement in light of your recent experience.
Can you see that this has already happened to you?
A costly failure probably contributed to by stuffing with it (mods, tunes) and by not really understanding it or monitoring it.

I'd like to see a better outcome for you.
A more conservative tune, a better sorted setup, maybe some study related to how combustion etc works.

Ultimately it's you and your understanding, reaction and interpretation of the gauges etc that will keep your tuned engine in check.

No one expects you to tune it. Not just yet anyway. But using a Tactrix for logging, LV's etc is achievable and even desirable for anyone that craves mods and power.
Ultimately, knowledge is the real power.

Im taking that as sacarsim. :? You have to remember that not everyone is as excited to play with their tune like you and BBB.

Im not confident in playing with a tune that i have no idea how to even start.

Not saying that it cant be done, but im not that way inclined!! I could probably learn and will do, but its not going to happen in time frame to help me.

Im going to pay ALOT of attention to the tune after this work.!!

But only when im comfortable will i have a play!!

Sorry Dan, wasn't meant to be taken as sarcasm. I sense you're not confident so thought perhaps don't buy gauges etc and eat into your budget for the build and tune.

Best spend the money wisely on the build at this stage and concentrate on that.

Then get a Tactrix or similar just to get an ECU health check snapshot. I'm sure there's plenty of people around Sydney who've got a Tactrix to help you.

Commence reading and see if its possible for you to tackle your own checking regime as part of routine maintenance. Else, ensure continued contact with your chosen workshop and get them to monitor and manage it.

Just another option. No use having a heap of gauges with no idea what to look out for.

Also best to spend your tight budget getting the best rebuild you can afford.

Just my 5c. No sarcasm. :D
