Steering wheel and shifter in the car, looks great.
Image

Work on the brembos continues
Image

I rounded the nipple on my brembos... lovely. now I need to buy a set of nut removers. and a new nipple (probably get a set of 8 speed bleeders to suit.
Image

New rims! Koya Drift Tek 18x8.5 with a loooow offset. (looks like +35)
Image

time for some guard work. (I dropped it down, but it was dark)
Image

I am pulling apart the old engine and getting ready to build the new one, removing the cam bolts. My 10mm hex bit is a 3/8" so I needed a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter. I put a breaker bar on that, and another bar on the crank bolt, and pushed down. The adapter simply twisted around, an even 90 degrees. I managed to get the intake cam bolt off with a large ratchet, but the exhaust cam bolt just caused a large CRACK from the ratchet when it skipped a gear. I'm buying a 1/2" 10mm hex bit today.
Image

My wife suggested instead of white, I do the brembos red (to match the stitching), which I think would look awesome. This is what I'm thinking:
Image

Also popped into revzone this morning and picked up JDM STi cams + springs + retainers, some Motul sport 5W40, some endless RF650, a genuine subaru filter (not willing to put ryco on the new engine after reading about it - it wouldn't bother me on a stocker, but it's not worth it for a few $).

Perfect.
I know red or variations of red are done to death... but theyre don't to death because it looks the best in my opinion.

There's a lot happening

I am now aiming to get the car on the cruise in April.

I dropped the car down, I am loving the rims, but will definitely need some guard work.
Image

Got a 1/2" drive 10mm hex bit
Image

And got the head off - Pistons seem fine, but neither of them are connected to the crank.
Image
Image

Went past revzone and picked up some goodies - Motul sport 5W40, Endless RF650, and MY11 JDM STi cams and valve springs.
Image

Friday off to autobarn for a few things, paint for the brembos, nite shade for my clear rear lights, spigot bearing - also ordered in clutch bolts and injector seals.
Image

Picked up the front bar today, tested the half bumper and the corazon grille, very happy with the result - and the fogs are further apart so more room for FMIC
Image

Also picked up the Fujitsobo exhaust
Image

Picked up an intake a little while ago, need to add some piping, but I'll do that when it's in the car with the FMIC so I can make it fit.
Image

Ordered from ebay:
Nulon 75W90 fully synthetic gearbox oil 5L, HDi Intercooler kit, truhart camber arms, coolant sensor holder, lightweight aluminium flywheel, 10 row oil cooler to go behind the grille.

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

SCA had 25% off tools this weekend, so I went a little crazy and got a bunch of stuff I have wanted for a while. Some of it I don't need right now, but it's good to have the right tools before you NEED them. (and a replacement 1/2" to 3/8" adapter)
Image

Ordering a few other bits and pieces I need - new bolts/studs/nuts for the turbo, ties for the exhaust wrap, flywheel bolts (engine to go in has a flex plate, so bolts are too short), coin holder fuse cover, power steering O ring, some wiring for the sensors.

The only thing I should need after that is some brembo adapters which I'm hopefully sorting out soon.

Really enjoying the progress on here. Looking awesome and can't wait to see the engine amd 6 speed conversion finished too

PS - I would go the red too - that deeper red (more maroon / candy-like red).

Looking good Matt. I am surprised you got the cam bolt off without a rattle gun.

With the calipre paint I have always just chosen a colour off the shelf in a brake paint. How do you go about getting a custom colour that is heat and chem resistant?

Mine is high temp paint, but if you sandwich it with a high temp base and a high temp clear, you can paint it any colour you like!

With those nut removers, I twisted the head off the nipple on the brembos.
Image

Busted an easy out trying to remove it
Image

I've drilled out most of it, but I think I will need an insert and a obviously a new nipple. I haven't got back to the brakes for a while.
Image

The other night I installed the fuel pump and refitted it, along with the backseat - no pics :)

I FINALLY got around to cutting up the cubby to suit the 1gauge
Image

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Cubby opens and closes! happy - I think I'll get a piece of black plastic laser cut to cover the whole thing properly.

I have also itemised everything I need to at https://trello.com/b/jq41LptB/liberty-rebuild - it's public so you can follow along

I've also ordered four different steering wheels to mix and match and sell the leftovers.

Damn I want one of those DAMD ones so bad. Reckon the DAMD outer with the STI middle would look killer.

That's the idea - The DAMD Arrived, but the STi airbag is on a slow boat from japan.
Image
I still need to re-wire the controls for preface, but I'll do the audio ones at the same time (hasn't arrived yet)

I finally got to finish the cubby/1gauge setup.

Start by getting my dremel on:

Test fit of where I was at.
Image

Now that I've got that going... take some measurements, and order some custom laser cut acrylic - but since the minimum sice is 150x300, get four just in case.
Image

Lucky I did....
Image

Also turns out it wasn't 100% centered (but the fascia was) so I needed a bit more dremelling.

I then realised I could see the top of the circuit board when it was in, so I needed to paint it black - I had some black bumper paint lying round from refurbishing my lip, so I used that.
Image
Image
Image

Glued in at the top:
Image

And the finished product:
Image

Also stripped the paint on the rear calipers:
Image
Image

Then got the front rotors and realised the manual brush was stupid, and bought a wire wheel in the drill:
Image

Looking decent, will sandblast them tomorrow. Going to get the bleeder fixed at racebrakes and get them to refurbish them.
Image

Also ordered a full set of Project Mu pads, and rear DBA T3 rotors to match the fronts. That should stop nicely.

Should have the brakes painted over the next week (probably will do 1-2 coats a day, need to do base, red, leave it for a few days, stickers, clear)

After i have the brakes done, I'll clean up the garage, and get the engine apart, machined, and then get the head studs, cams and valve springs in. Then I'll check all the valve clearances, hopefully they should be ok, or I can measure and swap in buckets from my old engine if required.

Wow, I'm blushing at your cornucopion of greatness.
Agree on going berserk with the tillers, it's the one thing you get your meat hooks on 100%.

I'm onto KC tools from Southern Bearings in Abbotsford, lifetime guarantee, so I invested in a 10mm 3/4 impact allen and 1/2 adapter, and a set of metric crows feet for around $65. The shop is a must visit old school gold mine IMHO.

Is that a thermostatic sandwich adapter? Need one...
Lmk if you're getting fire sleeve for the lines (eg MSCN) as I need some for my OC kit...

hah, I just make it up as I go along.

I will probably need some - there's no way to the front where the cooler will be that isn't past the headers (which will be wrapped, but still).

I masked up all the calipers (which is not a small job)
Image

Image

Then I got an IKEA clothes airer and drilled four holes in it to use as a frame to hold the calipers.
Image

Base coat:
Image

Colour coat:
Image

Super happy with how they have gone so far - will leave them for a couple of days, then put the stickers on and do a clear coat.

Cleared out the bench a bit - time to crack that engine and get the studs in.
