David at Kewish Transmissions is being very careful as he is aware that I am running a thread. He is not giving away any of his specific technical know how (fair enough) but he has been and is being very open and honest with me in relation to issues and problems. Each time I drop in, he takes me out to the workshop to see the state of play, and without knowing my background, takes the time to explain what he is doing or done.

Despite the time factor, I am learning and enjoying the experience.

I am hoping so, but I have no clues that they are monitoring. I suppose I could ask David directly. Have to check in with him tomorrow regarding the state of play and potentially a revised quote (as I have added the centre diff clutch pack mods to the original).

UPDATE: 24 MAY 2012

Spoke with David today and when they had completed the assembly of the last clutch pack there was backlash. For all others the fit was nice and snug with no backlash at all (the way it should be). On closer inspection the laser cutting of all the steel plates for the last clutch pack were incorrect, so he has rejected them. Have to wait a couple more days for the re-work, so no car this weekend.

He also confirmed the costs at completion and it will stretch my budget, but I had not initially consider the centre diff in my original estimate.

So, still waiting.....

Spoke briefly with David today and the corrected steel plates for the last clutch pack are being laser cut over the weekend. He should have them on Monday.

I was browsing through my build thread tonight when I spotted a very long post with very little writing.... Good one Mark!

I agree, good wheels are needed, but....

1. Transmission - underway.
2. Re-tune at Springy.
3. New extractors/headers from Tradewind, but he needs to sought out the setup for the auto before I commit. If I do the extractors, then I will do the whole exhaust thru a tuner to ensure no CEL and optimised tune for the exhaust. Mind you, the brief for the exhaust guy will be to a level that I like, throaty, deep idle and to hear the six on WOT but always below the EPA threshold.
4. WTA Intercooler and tune.
5. Any wheels I get will need to be a full package of 5 and they will be 18x8 max. Will probably stay with a gloss black with chrome/tip polished face. TSW wheels are looking possible. Any comments or quality issues?

Miss my daily drive :( and am on the train each morning and night for the last 3 weeks. It is very cheap by comparison (tolls, parking, fuel) and if I continue to use the train, then I may be able to save more quickly for...

THE BLOODY WHEELS, MARK !!!

Will still be bedding in the transmission on the cruise date, so not much chance of seeing the current potential. WIl be a nice drive to use all the gears though! Mmmm..... twisties!

And you have nothing to be mrgreen about. I have seen your numbers from the dyno day.

UPDATE 28 MAY 2012:

Spoke with David at Kewish Transmissions again today. He must be getting sick of my calls!

He received the newly cut steel clutch plates late today and did a trial fit. He is very happy with the rework and tolerances and no backlash. Will make real progress tomorrow on reassembly.

Next update will be Wednesday.

Mick,

I relieved Iwish of some parts he put up for sale about 1 year ago. I had someone else install them. Now I am re-building the auto box to handle those enhancements.

Forced Induction is such an ugly phrase. I prefer Airflow Enhancements!

UPDATE WED 30 MAY 2012:

Spoke with David again today. Box assembly has not been completed yet but expected to be back in the car by end of the week. Then the valve body tuning to commence. So, wont get the car back this week, but then again, I have full days at work this week, so even if it did become available, I would not be able to collect it before closing time.

So, maybe the end of week 5 is looking more likely.
