I don't live in Sydney, so he can't just quote me prices for most of the installs because I wouldn't be getting them done through him.
Also I'm not a tyre kicker like most people on these forums , so I don't just call up Phat and ask him how much he can save me on $15,000 worth of gear, and then never actually buy any of it.

NICE ANSWER! +1 :D

this thing is looking amazing! What a project.
Its fun building a 408 stroker and what not, but there's something about bolting on a nice big turbo and building a motor to take it.

Only question is, will the engine cover, cover the hot side of the turbo-inter cooler pipe?
That's the only criticism i have, the welding on that pipe really lets the rest of the car down.

cant wait to see some videos of this thing running wild!

Yeah will end up getting some in car footage of the car, have a setup in mind for this too.

Essentially the engine cover will not cover the hot side, however once the car is fully sorted and we have some time will probably clean it up somehow and respray them in a matte black. For the time being its function over form ;)

If you want, when its all together and you're happy with it, i'll be happy to drive it around for you... i mean help you out with some contacts that can help fabricate it.

I can supply polished stainless but that wouldnt help much in stealth haha

But i'd say a few mates of mine are handy with a TIG which will get you a pretty nice looking weld :)

wouldn't be are bad idea to have a few oil changes completed too during run in, if your really anal get the sump off and cleaned before your final tune.

Any advice on run-in oil from the mfg of the pistons/rings? FHI normally use some real watery stuff on their turbo's. Might be worth chasing the first 500km's on OEM run in juice. SA should be able to provide it if asked.

Also, for those posting questions about price, think about these basic figures:
~$1000 - 2.5l block (could easily be +1000)
~$2000 - big turbo (Garret, maybe +500)
~$800 - ext WG setup
~$1000 - custom dump pipe bits
~$1000 - headers (could easily be +500)
~$1000 - FMIC
~$1500 - pistons

Now those figures are vastly rounded (by many hundreds) and already come to $8.5-11K without all the fabrication that's going on, labour and a huge amount of ancilliary parts, let alone tuning.

All full builds cost $15-25K if done properly, and this looks like it's being done properly.

Full credit to Gambit and a special note on how stealth it's been kept! Great work, can't wait to see the progressive dyno's of this unit when it's together. :)

^ well said cpitts, pretty close to the mark there ;)

No i have not seen any recommend oils for the combination, my engine builder Racetec has always recommended Mineral oil during run in, to what viscosity i am unsure of.
Will definitely keep everyone posted on the results.

+1 For A black core, I had a nice shiny one on my S13 and it attracted the Police attention!
I had a black FMIC upgraded and liked the polishes alloy but painted it black 3 weeks later

ooooooohhhhh the anticipation. Don't be tempted to turn the wik up too far for the first 100km's. Run it in properly and you'll be VERY rewarded. :good:

Bad news... bitten by Ecutek, HPF cant reflash the tune because of it being locked, thought they could being ex Ecutek dealer, but obviously not, so off to chiptorque to swipe it and then back for an open source tune. So wont be back and ready for the easter break unfortunately.. ahh..

Unless things have changed in recent times, I didn't think you could 'unECUTek' an ECUTek-ed ECU? If you can, then that's been a LONG time coming!

Don't know how chiptorque do it, but apparently they can and have done it in the past.

this is what all (well almost all) ECUTek dealer what you to beleave but it is far from the truth. the ECUTek program can be removed at anytime and it has allways been this way. But as you know the UNSCRUPULOUS ECUTek has trained the dealers to tell you this in fear of losing market share to the free open source guys . Eg; MRT's babble

this is just my take on things that i see going on
