Very disappointed to say the least. Literally felt like torching the car.

Best run was a 14.5 at 102mph

Preaching to the chior man. Nothing like being underwhelmed. I am sure there is plenty left in it. At least you have 2mph on me..:)
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

MY04 Liberty GT - light mods

No doubt with micks current setup there is a mid 12 available , it seems the auto boxes just don't want to play happily .

Thanks for the support guys

To be honest it's a bit of a back seat for the car at the moment as I've got one f my best mates in a seriously critical condition in hospital.

At the moment I'm very disappointed in it and don't know what path to take with it to get it running right

If I go the 6 speed then the bock is coming out and 2.5 will go in with headwork and cams at the same time

I've also cancelled the e85 tune as there's no point tuning it of it won't get the power down

Will keep you updated

Cheers
Mick

Put the tcp quads on today. Got rid of the drone on freeway but sapped a little power too from my bum dyno.

Also installed the rear bar and lights from the 07 facelifted parts car. Looks awesome now as a hybrid

Im down to two options for the box:

Option one:
- modified stall convertor so I can launch at 3800rpm and full boost. This should wipe a whole second off my pathetic 2.7 60ft time and help get the car into the low 13s. Convertor is $1300.

- hexmods valve body mod for crisper shifting and hopefully eliminated slip higher up too. Should shave easy 0.3 seconds off the quarter time too. (if anyone can confirm whether the 05-07 us legacy had the same box as the 04-06 aus liberty that would be great. By the same logic it should mean the 07-09 aus liberty 5eat is the same as the 08-09 us spec legacy auto, but I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable can confirm this)

- tcu remap (been researching to buggery). Seems that the tcu compensates for lower rpm and gears by reducing line pressure and thereby making it granny shift. Some free tuning work should fix this and again hopefully aid in eliminating some of that slip I was experiencing at wot.

Option two:

-6 speed manual conversion
. This is more expensive and requires some detailed wiring modifications as well as a custom gearbox crosember, but will Obviously be the stronger and more predictable box for future mods etc.

- this would neee at least two weeks off the road for me to do myself and save over 1000 in labour for someone to do this properly , so I've gotta weigh my options up

Only when one of these two has occurred will I complete the e85 tune and turn up the boost and timing to crack deep into the 12s at least. If the 6 spee happens, I'll be doing the 2.5 motor with built heads and cams to get close to 270atw

Thoughts?

Hey Mick good luck with whatever route you choose.

Would you need to change your BIU and ECU to go the 6 speed manual conversion? Sounds like a pretty huge job. But would be worth it in the end provided you know you can get it to work. As all those Auto things sound like quick fixes that won't do a whole lot and the auto will just keep hindering you in the end? Just a thought.

Again, good luck. Keen to see how it turns out for you.

Wouldn't mind some pics of the car with the facelift conversion either.

Hi Mick,

From my research u and i have 2 options....

Plan A
Go the Hexmods option and torque converter. PRos, economical(about $2700 with new VB from states), Cons, may not take the punishment.....we are in unknown territory here.

Plan B (the damn expensive but bulletproof one)
MotecM800 (compatibility check needed) & 6 speed of your choice $11,500.

Huge price difference but.....

What have u found....

the only manual one in WA is $40,000.......
I'm seriously thinking of the conversion coz I want megapowa......

Buy all parts, then save and have it put in and motec'd in a week.
Apparently the tuneability is excellent with the motec too.

Price is.....ouch!

Why does it need a motec?

Thanks kieran. It's a tough one.

J thanks also for your advice an kind words but just a couple of things:

Hexmods vb mod is 600 odd plus shipping of 70 return.

Convertor is 1300 for a custom built one here in Sydney by a very very reputable auto guy. I can get one for as little as 700 but if I was going down this path I'd want it done well.

In terms of the 6 speed, there is absolutely no need to go to am aftermarket ecu to run a manual.

The auto and manual ecu's are exactly the same except for a pin identifying it. Once grounded, this pin tells the auto ecu it's a manual one.

The wiring is not extremely hard, more just tedious. The standard ecu can more than handle the job and the wiring is all using existing switches and pins etc.

The conversion should cost me less than 4500 complete.
