How much are the RE30's worth ?

I wouldnt be expecting much change if any from 2K for these.

The RE30 are amazing rims, on par with the CE28 and TE37 in terms of quality, weight, strength, durability, popularity and also the price. Definetely a timeless classic RAYS design offered in the traditional bronze, also very expensive new pending on rim specs.

One of the "greatest three" rim series offered from Volk Racing and Rays Engineering. That is a very popular proper real forged racing rim designed solely for track use, looks good and works on the street also.

They are worth more than the gram lights series as they are a casted rim but a very strong casted rim offered by Rays Engineering in comparison to Advans casted range such as the RS.

Update on the Auto Transmission Build:

Seems they did have all the parts at Subaru and all arrived last Friday. So the rebuild started in earnest on Monday and will include the following:

1. Machining to accommodate two additional steel plates for inclusion in each clutch pack (2nd, 4th, centre diff, main forward drive gear). The remaining clutch pack will be refurbished with the same number of plates as OEM as they were in good condition. COMPLETED.
2. Re laying the new seals, bearings and bushes. COMPLETED (checked and ready to go)
3. Installing steel plates in the wider clutch bays. Oh oh......!!!

Seems like the steels from Subaru are too thick (2.4mm each) and need laser cutting (down to 1.8mm each) to enable the fit. So another 24 hour delay while they send the steel plates out for cutting. Tomorrow (if they get the steel plates back), it will be:

4. 2nd gear clutch pack assembly increased from 5 to 7 plates.
5. 4th gear clutch pack assembly increased from 4 to 6 plates.
6. Centre Diff clutch pack increased from 5 to 7 plates.
7. Main Drive Gear clutch pack increased from 5 to 7 plates.

After the box is reassembled and tested, valve body will then be re tuned for shifting at 6000 rpm max and for a daily drive, not an aggressive drag car or track car setup, but a nice daily drive. So, I am hoping for firm but smooth shifts with no jolts or bangs in either the up or down shift. That is the brief given to the builder. Stay tuned (no pun intended) for the results, may be next week.

Thanks for your best wishes as I am rather missing the daily drive at the moment and somewhat nervous about the outcome.

Anyway, dropped in without notice to Kewish Transmissions this evening and David more than welcomed me into the workshop, took me over to the work bench on which my transmission is completely dissassembled. Hard to imagine all those bits can fit in the box! He talked me through the build activities so far, showed me all the parts waiting to fit and showed me some of the new Kolene treated steel plates and their thickness (2.4mm) and why they cannot fit into the machined clutch body. Seems that several of the upgraded steels and friction plates for each clutch pack come from Alto in the USA, made for the Nissan RE5R05A (which is based on the same Jatco box as the 5EAT). And the real reason for dropping in this evening was to check on the return of the laser cut steel plates, but now advised it will be at least a week. Well, back to the waiting game.

While David has direct experience with the Nissan boxes, mine is his first Subaru 5EAT and they are all slightly different despite being based on the same Jatco internals.

So I just need to be patient as I am after a good build and hoping for a good result.

I guess it is the brain of the transmission. But to look like one too is a bit spooky!!!

UPDATE AS OF FRIDAY 18 MAY 2012

The laser cut steel plates for the clutch packs will be back on Monday (as promised by the cutter) and then David from Kewish can start the reassembly. Hope for some good news mid week.

UPDATE FOR 22 MAY 2012:

The laser cut steel plates came back on Monday as promised and re-assembly of the clutch packs commenced. One steel plate was incorrectly cut, so it was sent back for re-work and is promised for Wed, 23 May. Completion of re-assembly should be completed at the latest by Thursday, 24 May. Then there is the valve body hard tuning to be done, so it is possible for Friday, but I am not getting my hopes up just yet.

I will post another update on Thu 24 May.
