A huge thanks to Hamish for advice on what to use and how to use it for these results. He lent me his spare polisher for my last car and I bought it off him so I can do this car and others in the future.

I just takes practice and experimentation Jack, having said that I'm still not going to touch the STi with the polisher, it has a few light swirls in the roof that could be fixed up very easily but I don't think the risk would outweigh the benefits.


Here's the paint finished on the last laser (not fully detailed). When I got it the paint looked dull with light scratches as if it had only ever been washed with a dirty sponge..



And before and after on the first car I fixed up. By hand...

Daniel your attention to detail is fantastic mate, imo you should give your lib a go. You seem to know what you are doing.
Also +1 for Hamish, that guy is always happy to take time out of his day to explain things to me and impart upon me experience based knowledge.

Haha it annoyed me so much! But I blew my $200 budget on new tyres and missing parts

Cheers! I might if I give it a go before some sort of permanent paint protection, but the imperfections it has are so slight I don't even notice unless I wave a torch around looking for them

Some bumper black would of sorted that front bumper for cheap.

So I started polishing it again to bring it up to a half respectable condition. Started with the two worst parts. The bonnet and the rear bar. The photos show how bad it was, the car was only a little bit dirty from being out in the rain. The bonnet was pretty bad so I didn't want to go through the clear coat, and the rear bar has been poorly resprayed and wet sanded.

I used a proper light to see the imperfections and it made a huge difference, the parts that look half good under the bright light look perfect in the sun

A big thanks to Hamish for advice on what to use. I was actually sure I would get the rear bar repainted before he said I should give it a shot. Now it's not much worse than the rest of the car

Bird bomb You can also see the paint and how it seems to have a dull finish in the light, I don't know if I can get rid of this completely.

Cheers, guys. Good being able to drive a car that looks semi-respectable now... Although I'm currently looking for a new front bar...

My front outer CV boot was split the other week too, along with the steering rack boots so I figured I'd have a go at replacing it myself. Learnt a lot and I'd feel confident doing it again

Did you get a wheel alignment after doing the rack boots??

I put them back in the same spot (just had it aligned) and it feels exactly like before so should be okay for a while. I need to try adjusting the camber myself, if I can't get that satisfactory I'll get it all done by a shop.

...Matt at Bridgestone Select Golden Grove is your man if you aren't already sworn to someone else - he's looked after me quite a few times now. Last was a full four wheel alignment for about $60 - actually I think he charged me less at the end of the day (that is even with coilover adjustments and fixing a seized tie rod end). Top job too - no corners cut.
