So I started polishing it again to bring it up to a half respectable condition. Started with the two worst parts. The bonnet and the rear bar. The photos show how bad it was, the car was only a little bit dirty from being out in the rain. The bonnet was pretty bad so I didn't want to go through the clear coat, and the rear bar has been poorly resprayed and wet sanded.
I used a proper light to see the imperfections and it made a huge difference, the parts that look half good under the bright light look perfect in the sun

A big thanks to Hamish for advice on what to use. I was actually sure I would get the rear bar repainted before he said I should give it a shot. Now it's not much worse than the rest of the car

You can also see the paint and how it seems to have a dull finish in the light, I don't know if I can get rid of this completely.
