For what it's worth shav, Michael South's endorsement of the Invidia solution is enough to put my mind at rest regarding the issues we thought may have existed with the Invidia product. I know he wouldn't advise the fitment of something that would cause issues.

Yep, I hear ya. Perhaps we were over thinking it. Im satisfied knowing MSR approve it too without further requirements.

$800 to supply and fit the dump. $200 to fit my turbo at the same time.

Once I get approval from the minister for war and finance, it's getting booked in. :)

Hahaha. Nice :D That's both confusing and great news. At least we know it will sit well after Mick fits it.

HEL braided brake lines have arrived! They'll go on with the brakes from cruisn when they're finalised.

Also considering putting speed bleeders into the new brakes, just to make doing fluid changes a bit easier moving forward.

alexeiwoody wrote:I'll just say that IMO (judging by the pics and customer feedback on the new invidia dump) - it's a very disappointing "new and specific to 5eat" design. If you seriously want to reduce heat on the auto box, buy a different dump or rework this one to move it further away. That pretty much makes it cheaper to just buy an x force.

That thing doesn't look safe, and there's no room for wrap and even ceramic coating - it's already so close to touching. I seriously hope shav posts some better looking install pics, otherwise people should stop promoting this thing as the best dump for the auto. :banned:

Having gone through the pain of installing the "new and specific to 5eat" Invidia dump last night, I pretty much echo the above sentiments.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and you'd think i'd of learnt by now that doing DIY work on a Subaru after hours when you need to drive it home for the missus to use the next day is always asking for trouble.
:x

With the dump bolted to the turbo, the bottom the of Cat was hard up against the gearbox and there was no way it would join the centre pipe without some serious mods. Unfortunately we took the route of "re-shaping" the cat (ie indenting with a hammer) rather then trying to bend the pipe once bolted to the turbo. We dismissed this option initially as we were concerned about the stresses it would place on turbo, mounts and other parts when applying enough force to bend the s/s dump. Apparently a 2m length of steel stuck up the end is about the amount of leverage required to bend it! It would of needed to be bent a fair way to provide clearance also!!!

So now i have the dump in, with a slightly mangled cat which even now is less than 1mm away from the gearbox. I estimate we had to indent the cat appox. 15mm in an area the size of a business card to have it clear the gearbox. If we were to bend it, it would of required a pretty big bend and then there would of been issues with it lining up with the stock centre pipe.

At the moment i've got a major case of buyers remorse (i thought i was paying extra money for something designed specifically to fit) and also a level of foolishness having since learnt that re-shaping the cat to gain clearance probably wasn't the smartest way to go about it.

I guess worst case if re-shaping the cat negatively affects performance/serviceable life, i can get an exhuast shop to re-weld a new cat in place.

Still waiting to get re-tuned from kido (have put in dump pipe and PSR silicone inlet hose kit myself in last couple of weeks) before I can take the car out of i mode and see what difference its made from stock with kido tune.

And i should add, based on my above experience there is no way there would be enough clearance if you were to wrap the cat and then try and install.

Unless my specific dump pipe was a one-off, even an extra coat or two of ceramic would make a difference to clearances it is that tight!!!

wow.

That doesnt give me a lot of confidence with mine at all. Dammit. I dont think I would be going the option of mangling the cat for fear of reducing the flow effects of the cat. If anything, I'd rather modify the dump to fit a slimmer bodied cat if that makes any difference. Something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SS304-3-High ... cfd&_uhb=1 OR THIS http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CATALYTIC-CO ... b83&_uhb=1

Yes it's more cash, but it's got to be a neater look, and have better clearance than that. Im not impressed with the design if this report is true, and I havent even got my dump yet.

This sucks big time.
Cheers

Because it was about 9:30 at night when we were fitting the new one, i needed to drive the car home that night and every other aftermarket performance Subaru part I have fitted (ie PSR inlet silicon hoses) has required undocumented modifications to make it fit. Just seemed par for the course!

should have re fitted the old dump, bashing the cat may have damaged the honey comb

Hindsight etc etc.

100 cel metallic core cat which is supposedly pretty robust. I'm getting different opinions from a few specialists/exhuast places as to whether it would of damaged anything. Consensus is generally being that because metallic core it should be pretty robust.

With this new information, Im thinking of holding off fitting the dump until I get a new slimmer bodied cat welded into position and then fitting the dump to avoid this headache. Hopefully it will give me more clearance too.
Cheers

its kinda too little too late now to swap. Cost to send the Invidia back or sell it cheaper then you bought it, compared to buying the Phat dump, or just modify the Invidia to suit makes it easier to deal with with similar costs.

I've spoken to Blitz exhuast who have fitted a few of these and have said they fit right up without modification, so perhaps others will not have the same issue. Currently investigating whether i got sent the wrong (ie manual) version.

Shav - If you've been sent the right version and you're getting an exhuast place to fit it you shouldn't have any dramas as per advice from Blitz so perhaps don't be too concerned. The Invidia pipe is expensive enough as it is without having to do further modifications.
