That sucks mate - happened to me a couple of weeks ago in my wife's car albeit the guy was honest enough to leave a note on my windscreen

On a side note, that video that its-sti posted really shits me

the misinformation and propaganda from that shop is ridiculous and outsandingly insulting to the intelligence of anyone with merely a moderate understanding of performance work

:angry2:

the 07's were not the first model with dbw
the standard inlet manifold and throttle body is not impossible to use with a front mount
a motor which has 20k spent on it as he claims should not be rev limited to 6500rpm
i can go on

In the 3rd video of the 3 parts, he says it has electric driver and passenger seats, which is wrong.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWl6SBEM ... page#t=26s

So either it's an MY08 (which would be pretty funny as it's listed as an MY07), or he is talking out his ass about it having electric passenger seats.

I haven't watched the videos in almost a year but I remember there was so much shit in there that was completely wrong. You would think a 6 month project might include actually learning what the model year of the car is.....

Kind of ridiculous on so many levels - and it shits me that good people are getting ripped off by these crunts with no regard for the damage they can do

in terms of the damage caused - see if you can go back to the place you were and ask for cctv footage - get the licence plates etc and go through insurance

what else didnt i like

the fact that they claim you need to spend 20k on engine work to get over 200kw at the wheels
the internal wastegate on the upgraded turbo (of which no specs are provided)
the incorrect references to model differences as kieran has mentioned above and what i said
the blatant bum steer in relation to inlet manifold and throttle body
the "tuning" of the front mount intercooler (referred to as being properly tuned wtf)
the low rev limit as previously mentioned - a well built 2.5 should rev to 7500 all day everyday
just their general misinformation they feed ppl which is friggen rubbish

and these assholes still make money - makes me wonder how much id make if i open my workshop soon

seriously

The turbo was really small from what revzone said, revzone put a bigger custom turbo on and it's still got an internal gate... It made 250 kw atw at 15psi which was what the owner wanted so they never boosted it, I'm going to boost it though lol hoping over 300kwatw

i hope for your sake you are able to crack the 300atw mark, but based on revzone and mrt's work to date, and the crap you have been fed, it will be hard to do

can i ask (not having a dig at you but at them) if they were the ones who told you they fitted a "custom" turbo - if so what exactly does this mean? Did they physically assemble the turbo and have it balanced using a hybrid type setup? Or is it a means of shutting clients up by telling them their turbo is "custom" because they really dont know the specs themselves and dont want to be made to look the fool?

Just shits me that these workshops keep feeding bs to people and expecting them to believe it

you're car is superb mate honestly im not having a dig, and having spoken to a few people they seem to know the car and the motor seems to have been built right in terms of long block- however based on the garbage i have seen come out of both workshops' mouths, it appears neither really know wtf theyre on about nor what has gone into your car. and to that end i feel bad for you

That car in the right hands (with that amount of cash spent on it) should be making over 300 at the wheels now, without hesitation.

Refer to my build thread and my last post for a synopsis of what a built motor will cost and what sort of power it should make, and these are realistic expectations and prices (I have been conservative deliberately).

well rev zone havent done anything wrong, they havent fed me crap at all but mrt well...... revzone have picked up from mrt, revzone have said to me there is things they dont like about the car but we are stuck with. revzone told me over the phone off the top of his head most of whats in my car, he knows the car very well, but as i said ages ago that when i got the car it was still being run in and with a car like this there is still many unknowns

as far as the turbo, revzone said to me its a 22g so im guessing its a td06, they said it was a custom spec which they are keeping a secret, mrt fitted a turbo to this car but it was crap and restricted the power somewhat. The car atm doesnt make 300kw atw cause of the wastegate actuator which the turbo company supplied

This might sound like are broken record, but with the heads and block this car has fitted, it would be better suited to are custom gt30 or bigger twist mount set up, running an external gate.

Of course Phat GT would be the man to call upon and full retune to suit….. you would easily achieve 300kw atw + on 98.

It doesn’t make sense that all that engine work is wasted with such an inefficient turbo/waste gate combination, which is typical of MRT’s work……. just slap it together and claim it’s are secret……

My first encounter with MRT was the same day I picked up my car, at the time I wasn’t fully aware of what power the ej25t was capable of making with are closed engine. After spending an hour listening to MRT talk about their custom TBE, intake, FMIC, sti bottom end and secret custom made turbo (note no fuel system upgrades were mentioned) and $15k later I would be making 230 kw atw……….. I also remember hearing that are TBE fitted without are tune would over spin the turbo and blow the engine…… At this point in time I knew this had to be are comedy act, not to mention that most of the cars around the work appeared to be boy racer cars with shopping list sticker on the driver’s and passenger’s doors and even are few commodores and falcons with MRT enhanced stickers.

The following weekend I meet with Phat GT to pick up some parts and sitting in his drive way was 07 tb sti which he just finished fabricating are custom gt30, fmic, fuel system upgrade, intake, exhaust and still unopened engine making 260+ kw atw on 98…. At that point in time I found out not only was he are parts supplier but also did a lot of custom work for range of cars, needless to say I never bothered visiting any other performance shops.

well for the moment i will see where the current turbo set up goes as its rated for 22-25psi, let us see what this puffer has in it and weather the internal gate becomes an issue ;) i think it will get 300 atw pm 98 the car was last tuned on 95..... so its got 260rwkw on 15psi

My new liberty with mods :)

Postby Gambit » Mon Jan 16, 2012 9:11 am

Ah the trials and tribulations of a build. Hahaha
There's another build in the works on rsliberty that will be using a similar if not the same internal gate turbo from ATP. Although that build will be using E85 off the bat.

I found most shops shut over the Christmas break are re-opening today 16-01-2012. Try today..
