Thanks guys! I'll have to grab one of the Perth guys with a tactrix cable and software who has time time to do a log of the OCVs.
Just hope to get to the bottom of it soon, once it's sorted I can do my turbo swap without fear of blowing things up then I'm DONE with modding the engine of this car.

I'll just have to start on suspension

Hey Jacob

What's an OCV?? Well funnily enough you were describing your symptoms... because mine surges like a bitch. Worse in the mornings when engine is cold... last week it was spluttering... and when I just press on the accelerator it just would not move... it was soooo bad that after turning onto a main road, I could not even accelerate to the speed limit (and to the guy behind... probably thought I was an asshole for pulling out in front of him and travelling at 30 km/h)... I had to pull off a side street. I have since cleaned the MAF and it has improved things slightly... but still in the off gear ranges... it is surging to get itself into the torque band. So eg. say you are in 4th travelling at 60km/h, rather than changing to 3rd, you keep in 4th to overtake and it really feels like a learner is driving my car! I guess I will have to wait til Matt is here in a couple of months.. :(
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

OCV = Oil Control Valve, it's responsible for activating the AVCS, eg adjusting the timing via cam gears for power and economy. aparently if they are farked the cam gears don't move around in sync with each other and you get poor fuel economy and loss of power (this is all what I have gathered from my reading on BBB's thread) interesting that you are experiencing pretty much the same symptoms as me! Yeah i feel like a learner driver who can't get to speed properly. Commodore drivers thinking "look at this crappy slow STi"

But once the engine has warmed up... does it still feel sluggish... or does it surge quite noticeably? Because if yours is the latter... then we are definitely having the same issues... Is your car a manual or auto? Mine is a 5mt as it is the preface... so it has the twin scroll etc. whereas yours will be slightly different to mine. Well see if you can come down to Subi Fest this coming weekend in Freo... I will be there and as far as I know.. Bezzza will also be there... I have got a Tactrix, but I'm like you... I don't really know what I am looking for... As well as my ECU is locked by Maximum and the only person that has the bypass is Matt. So at least logging for your car is still possible if you want to do that.

Check out this members progress, might be a similar issue to yours?
The OCV issue is pretty subtle, mainly affects low rev smoothness and economy...
You really need to log it and post those logs...
Know anyone local with Tactrix/pc laptop?

A log would be excellent if possible! :D
I'm getting the symptoms all the time, cold or warm, new fuel, all SI drive settings. Mine's a 5 speed auto (which has also recently been serviced to rule it out as a possible factor) I'm also running a 2.5 single scroll as standard in the STi post facelift. Is yours a 2.0? What's the go with the freo meet?

That thread plus boostaddict's and your own have been my bed time reading for the past few days :D
Yeah it's certainly affecting the low rev smoothness and my economy is shot to hell at the moment. At high revs (once they get there) it seems like normal and performs well and at full power. It's just useless anywhere between 1000 and 3000rpm and no matter what you do you can't gain speed with more throttle.
It's been a while since my previous turbo disaster so I haven't really been plugged in (pun not intended) with the local Lib community. So I'll have to see who is able to spare some time for a little drive and a log

I can PM you the log.cfg Matt sent me for standalone logging.
You can load that on a MicroSD card and log using the rear demister button for on/off, or select the listed parameters in RR Logger for laptop logging :)

QuoteKeiran:
I am told that AVCS is not subtle if it's truly fucked. IE cam gear replacement level, which would result in an IAM drop. Matt said Bruces car was IAM dropping from his Springy tune because of his AVCS.

I had some OCV out of sync but, there's more flavours available...

The timing belt can skip a tooth, or a cam gear can get crap lodged in it and stick open or closed...
A log will help :)

Cool, thanks so much once again! Hopefully if someone has the gear and some spare time I can get a log happening soon so I can get onto replacing whatever is causing my problem before my motor lunches itself.
