What else that sorta annoys me.

If im pulling the motor out and heads off, im the guy that thinks that while the motor is out its build time. And do it once and do it properly.!!

I hate the idea of having a block ready for some close decking, sleeving and forged goodies and doing absolutely nothing to it while its out or even doing a half assed build.!!

Yeah but it's gotta make sense for your situation too

Otherwise when its done you'll be depressed and upset that you did it which will ruin the fun of it

The problem is that my wife is the bank!!! Literally , she earns the money and we will be doing it under our company ( too hard to expand on, but its for tax.) so she will KNOW all.!!

I might be able to squeeze a little more out of her limit, but it will have to be with a guarantee of 'not a cent more'.!!

From doing a little research, it's circa $3k for head gaskets and studs etc, c$5k for that and drop in pistons, and somewhat more for closed deck and or sleeves.

Yeh BBB I was thinking those figures too.

The boss has said $3kish is the max , anything over..... Ie $5k its Bye bye!! And I get a bloody falcon or commonwhore as she is sick of me and my cars!!

She will calm down, my bottom end is all good. So I'll get the heads right, maybe some extra tickling in them and be done with it. My bottom end will be fine with my power and mods etc for a long time.!!!

Ok so the leak down test and the head gasket test have shown ......

Surprise surprise ..

Blown head gasket .

The compression is good, only slightly down on cylinder 2 ( probably where the gasket is blown ) by about 8%. Which. I'm told is normal range.!

So what to do now?? Been given the go ahead to spend $3-3.5k..... Wonder what can be done!!

There is a motor at my mechanics that has done a bottom end.

So maybe swap my motor ( money / value wise ) for that and fix that one up ??

Or maybe need to call rising sun or what ever its called.!!

Suggestions.!!

And money wise , I MAY be stretched depending in the value of it???

So fire away boys / gals ( ie RICCO )

I'd be inclined to trade it in as per your earlier thoughts.

I think your budget is tight and if you can't absorb the extras that my be required, then don't commence, as you'll end up with a incomplete job.

From reading previous posts, I see you've got competing interests for your time and financies in family, kids, house purchasing etc.

Following the rebuild you'll still need to work out what happened with your tune or prepare to go back to the factory tune without mods till you sort it out. Are you prepared for that?

On a stock bottom end you need to be able to tweak your tune yourself and be able to manage it. It's a little bit time consuming both gaining the knowledge and then applying it.

BTW this is just IMHO.. :)
